Topping Soil with Clay Pellets

I recently topped my soil with clay pellets because the direct sunlight was drying out the soil way too quickly, does anyone else do this or recommend it? I only topped half the first day as a test but they definitely kept the soil moist instead of being bone dry by the time I got home later in the day so I then topped the rest of my pots.

kind of defeats the purpose in my humble opinion… the quicker the soil dries out the quicker you can get fresh food into her just my thoughts

I’m thinking about doing a little on my next grow, cause of the fans drying out plants. Just a few in pots not as many as you have, just to see what happens. . .

@B345T I would agree if at the end of the work day the plants were just ready for some water, the reality is I was coming home to the soil so dry there’s no way it could be beneficial to any plant

@B345T thanks man I really appreciate it, the clay pellets definitely help keep the soil nice and moist throughout the day, I just want to make sure I’m not doing anything detrimental to the plants

no worries,… outside really aint my thing… but cant see why using clay pebbles would cause any harm, they can be mixed in, my initial thought was why would you want to keep the soil wet for longer that was only reason i was against the idea but knowing now your having serious issues drying out hopefully one of the outside guys can point you in a direction

Hey @KritsCannabis pictures
The clay pellets are a good idea and wound harm anything I’ve seen people use small stones as well
If your drying to fast you could also look in a drip water system for the garden ? They sell kits at Home Depot and similar store as well as on Amazon
If I can be of assistance just tag me brother
If you have a soil moisture meter stick it in and see if your drying out all the way to bottom of pot you may not be as dry as you think

@Countryboyjvd1971 thanks man I’ll definitely look into that, and keep you in mind if any more problems arise. you and many others on this forum have been extremely helpful and I really appreciate all the help
