First off, thanks for the all the help and advice you’ve provided already. I’m completely new at growing indoors and I’m looking for experienced feedback.
Background
Given that I don’t have a green thumb and wanted an extremely easy setup, I ordered a Tomato Tent (link below). From my research it seems like the ideal complete starter tent kit for someone who resides in an apartment with limited space. I really like all the tech features too. Unfortunately, the tent won’t be shipped until late July now and I have a lil’ guy on the way (germinated an autoflower, fem Sour Diesel and he’s about to break through the soil).
Desired Goal
4 zip harvest … 1 ounce / month (or more, who doesn’t want more ) Constraints:
a small footprint (1.5’x1.5’ or 2’x2’ tent)
budget ($700 for complete set-up minus seeds, soil, etc.)
autoflower strains (at least for my first couple of grows)
Here are my questions
Has another owned a Tomato Tent? How was the experience?
Any insight after reviewing the specs?
Given my situation would you suggest sticking with the Tomato Tent or trying to build a setup on my own?
Any recommendations on an affordable / decent light or bulb to help with the germination and cloudy days until the tent situation get’s figured out?
Any advice at all is sincerely appreciated! Thank you guys! Looking forward to hopefully growing an awesome first harvest.
That sounds like an experienced / pro setup. Unfortunately I don’t have that much room to flex my green thumb muscle. My apt can accommodate a 2x2 tent. I have a closet available too (20" x 40" x 80" high) but research I’ve done says tents are a better method to control the various variables that influence plant growth and yield (temperature, moisture, etc.).
@dbrn32 I hope you don’t mind me mentioning you in this topic. It was suggested that I start a new topic. You’ve provided solid insight so far so I’d love to here your opinion
Is there a 2x2 setup that you can recommend? I’ve scoured the net and haven’t found solid full kits available and some of them seem sketch. The HLG lights you mentioned in the previous post are solid and at a perfect price point.
That’s under $500 right? And pretty much all top notch shit. For another $200 you could get decent ph meter, tds tester, pots, growing media, base nutrients, a power strip if needed and probably still have a few bucks to toss at seeds.
@xclu5iv. Thats a solid setup that @dbrn32 gave ya there. I wish i had that guy around when i was spending money! Thats the setup if 2x2 is what you want.
I think automation is great. Just make sure you’re not skimping out on getting a good light and fan to have money available for automation equipment. It’s easy to add later.
I’m opting fo a 2x2’ or 2x3’ tent so I can grow 1-2 plants.
I’m currently putting my plant on my building’s roof and then bring it indoors where I have a GE Par38 grow bulb. Good sunlight outside but no privacy.
