Tobacco Mosaic Virus or a deficiency?

Hey guys, I need some help. I’m wondering if this is Tobacco Mosaic Virus or some kind of deficiency? Here is my set up. I’m using full spectrum leds ,(HLG V2 550 RSpec) temps are at lowest 68F and at most 79F, humidity is between 55-60%im using Detroit Nutrient Company Great Lakes water only soil in fabric pots. Ive got 2 strains I’m growing. Blue dream is growing great with no problems. But all of the Gold leafs have the same problem that’s in the pics. I’ve done the exact same thing to the GL as I did to the BD. Is this a deficiency or Tobacco Mosaic Virus? Anything helps, thanks! image image image image image

@Sk88, lots of experience around to help you. I was curious did you leave the blue solo cups in, when you transfered? If so, why? Again am just curious

Lol. Yeah it looks that way but no. What I did is I cut the top 2 inches off and put it around my plants because I mulched my containers. The mulch can’t touch the stems and there needs to be 2inches of mulch so I figured this was the cheapest way to get 2inches of mulch and keep the mulch off my stems.

It looks like a pH swing more than TMV.
Here’s a link on the subject;

As far as ph goes, I haven’t checked it because I’m growing all organic and using distilled water. My blue dream plants are in the same environment and same watering schedule as these plants and they look great. The only thing I’ve added is great white to the root zone when I transplanted. I’m lost as to what to do :pensive:

I wouldn’t worry too much, but you should check the runoff pH always as good practice. Whatever toasted them is an unknown, perhaps the “great white” had a chemical reaction with other incompatible compounds, it looks like nutrient burn, light burn, or a combination, or the cat peed on it.

In any event if they’re well cared for from here on out, the new growth should be vigorous, and not looking like it spent time under your car’s tailpipe.

Lol. Thanks for the help

As far as mulch touching the plant stems no worries as long as the mulch is plant friendly. Some like cedar mulch or using dyed mulch (toxic chemicals used to color it) will negatively affect the grow. I use straw as mulch but don’t use 2 inches of it just thick enough to cover the top of the soil.
I have 2 gold leaf growing and when they were young did show a similar look as yours. They are about 18 days into flower.

The big tall ones in center of pic and doing fine
The dead crispy one was taken out by an issue with bad critters at the roots…lol is in another 45 gallon pot and the other 2 plants in there are doing fine.

And just for those wondering: I don’t know anyone here who has actually seen TMV: it’s apparently pretty rare.

IMO your young GL plants are just sorting themselves out and will eventually dominate your entire grow space lol.

also, please do a bug check! the pics aren’t super clear, but that last photo could be many things but also could be spider mite damage. flip the leaves over and see if you see any tiny dots or webs. you can also take a loupe and look on the back.

Cool idea! Thx
