To all the larger operation growers

Does anyone have a reliable extra par meter that they could sell me? I’m a disabled veteran on a fixed income so please no lemons. I just have such unreliable readings with this diffuser and Photone app. It’s hard to rule out too much or too little light when I have no idea what the ppfd is.

I know right, I would feel more comfortable with the manufacturers recommended height and intensity if I didn’t have two daisy chained.

I found the ppfd meter app for Android much closer (more accurate) to my lux meter than phontone, and it allows you to save par maps which I found very useful.

I don’t know I got insane numbers with a diffuser. No reason should be higher height and lower intensity and getting numbers greater than the manufacturers. Just at a loss because spent $30 between the led setting and diffuser

@Bigcbud

You’re likely not going to find a resolve here. You may be able to find used units on eBay or Facebook market place.

If all else fails and you really want to chase those numbers you can look into buy now pay later programs like Klarna. There are several of these pay later things out there. Some of them have 0 interest. Usually there are options to pay bi-weekly or once a month.

Thanks @Low but I trust people on here more than eBay for some reason. I’ll just bite the bullet and buy one, wanted to be cheap.

Totally understandable

Did u calibrate it? With a verified ppfd chart?. Will be most accurate that way.

Sorry I’m not sure how I can calibrate with the app. Wouldn’t I need an accurate meter to calibrate?

There is two calibrating options. One is to use a meter, other is to use a trusted and verified ppfd chart (3rd party).

With my hlg 350r, i know it hits 982 ppfd at 15" dead center of a board. I calibrate outside of a tent with no mylar or other lighting. Works like a charm.

So I should take the manufacturers recommendations and calibrate the app according to that?

And is this the Photone app you’re talking about calibrating?

Yes photone app. I would like to think ac infinity information is accurate, but i would try to find a third party test, some1 may have done a video online using a apogee that you could just steal those numbers.

Worst case calibrate using the chart, and compare after to a different height.

Don’t know why I didn’t think of that low actually gave me this and I could just enter into app. Thanks growmie

Here’s where I am confused, the app reads exponentially higher than what it should.

This is at the same height and intensity that someone did with their photobio and they have daisy chained going I shut one light off.

Then I go to calibrate and get a message like this

Just odd because so many people recommend it for a good ball park and I’m reading double that. Do reflective tents really add that much ppfd? Do you think I should just make the adjustments regardless of everything mentioned?

He knows his stuff. Probably just did not think of it. Believe he uses a actual par meter.

Hey there @Bigcbud. I just wanted to throw out a reminder that even with a par meter it would still be helpful to learn some about the symptoms of excess or inadequate light. Each plant will be different and have slightly different requirements so while knowing the number is helpful it’s not the end all be all of your grow.

Thanks for the info @Poseidon1. I’ll have to give photone another shot. last time I used it there was no calibration and it was wildly inaccurate no matter what I did.
