A customer has a question and I hope we can get some opinions on it, thanks
“My second year growing your seeds and very satisfied. My question is…in all of my blueberry bud from last year I found one seed and it germinated and is now a 6 ft plant with huge leaves. I have not found any seed in any other buds of different varieties either. The plant I think will be female but what is it? True blueberry? Is blueberry a hybrid and will revert back to either parent? If so what are it’s parents? I appreciate your knowledge on the matter. Looking forward, again, to a bountiful harvest this season.”
I think it would be a blueberry plant if it was from a blueberry. But that would depend on how it was pollinated whether it be from a neighboring plant or if it turned slightly hermie. But I’m no expert in genetics so I would let others answer.

From what I have read the Blueberry goes back to the late 1970’s developed by DJ Short an american breeder and the strain is Indica dominate 80%Indica/20%Sativa. I don’t know if that’s helpful I’m growing an auto blueberry but its only 10 days from sprout.
You piqued my interest and after some research I found the parents of the original blueberry are Afghani,Purple Thai and Thai but there have been so many crosses over the years by different breeders it would be very difficult to pin it down. What seeds did you order?
It seems like ILGM could say if this is a stabilized strain that would come true from seed or if it’s some kind of hybrid. I wonder if that information is proprietary?
None of the breeders/sellers are very forthcoming with that sort of information for some reason.

Last year was my first time growing…although I’ve been a professional gardener my whole career. I planted directly in the ground and if I’m not mistaken I got about 19 oz from her. I was amazed at the bud size. Yours look great.

@itsmehere how did it smoke? This is my 3rd year, however I used to grow right in the soil of my garden but was dissatisfied with the taste/smoke quality of the buds. I’m trying out 10 gallon fabric pots with fox farm ocean forest this year.
In the ground is the best, as far as I’m concerned. I have some legal-grow 8 footers, just starting to flower. The stalk is at least an inch and a half at the soil level. The pipe below is 1 1/2’ PVC.

It was really mellow and long lasting. Friends I shared it with loved it. I have very good soil, been working on it for over 20 years plus i add composted chicken manure from my hens every fall. I use the advanced nutrients combo too. Actually I just increased the bloom part as they are coming into bud now. I also use epsom salts once a month.
