The first time plan....Thoughts?

@TxGrowman my concern with led is that no fact shows that the amount of lumen or the spectrum of led at any watt is intense enough for plants…unless your growing small plants and expect a small yield…I was big at one point with led…but the science killed them…unless your willing to pay for hp4s led sun spectrum light…those are my dream fixture…:cry::cry:

Thanks to all for the great information! From what I’ve read and what you’ve all said here, I’m thinking one 600w hps or two 300’s? and only do two plants in the 4x4 area and SCROG. How long do seeds last?

A long time if keep cool and dry

I just bought Gold Leaf back in April. Took about 15 days to get here US Michigan. Out of 20 that I bought I have germinated 13 and only one that did not pop. I killed 6 because. I touched them to much and buried them to deep. I have 6 that are doing well. So if you buy 5 you should be OK. I store them in the frig. Hope this helps. Happy growing

I had some columbian seeds that a friend and I saved from 1973 when we graduated from high school that I germinated last year and they did fine. I store in a locked box that is dry and temperature controlled. I have multiple seeds from Robert that are 2-3 years old and they do fine when I germinated them this year.

@Niala could you lend some light on this. I believe that it is the 600 watts you base it on. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks Jerry

This says we can store our seeds for free

If I go with hps setup then the math says I need 800w to cover a 4x4 area. So I might as well go with a 1000w hps to cover two plants of Goldstandard…
Again, I can’t thank all of you enough for your help! Thanks!

I’d say get a viperspectra 900w, 420 actual replaces around 800w hps apparently. Utter beast, awesome 3 fan design for maximum heat reduction (can’t wait to get mine wish I just bought 2 to begin with)

Thanks to @Hawkeye_diesel @Daze09 @Countryboyjvd1971 @GrowManFitz @Hunter00 @MAXHeadRoom @McLovin777 @Matthew420 @TxGrowman. I’m trying to do everything old school so I’m torn by getting an led ovr the hps. When I was growing up, my dad had a jungle of house plants in the living room and they grew like crazy with just light and water.

I only say led due to awesome running costs and heat management, if heat is no issues then I’d be 1000w HID all the way! Up to you man, but if your going to use a tent on a middle upper floor of a house be prepared to have a tells big and reasonably noisy fan is all in saying. Personally I’m in a semi and need it to be utterly silent so to keep heat at what I need it the fan has to be uber loud. And I got an oversized one which is literally the most silent on the market debatabley. In conclusion it totally depends on your particular set up and location and requirements :deciduous_tree:

Am in agreement with @McLovin777, it’s all in what works for you. I have had great yields with the LED so far and have been happy with it. My big issue with the HPS is that it has a lot of heat associated with it and I have a very small area that I use for most of my grows. As with everything in growing, it is your grow and your choice. Almost any light source available now will make good cannabis. Money went into my decision for light source. The LED I got was on a 1/2 price sale and I got it.

You can even do a grow with CFL (I have grown with CFL) and still get fair to good results. CFL just doesn’t penetrate good enough to get big colas though.

It is all in what you have confidence in. Good luck on your grow.

I personally have never used anything but leds because of the heat hps light generate I didn’t want the added cooling costs my self

In my room I run two 1000 watt HPS lights. The rooms 5X10 and I have two 6" inline fans cooling the lights which draw air from outside through the lights and back outside. They do cool the light enough to be able to touch the glass without burning yourself. I also added an ac unit to help keep it cool in the room. If I didn’t have the ac unit the temp would be to high at 85-90 degrees even with the fans cooling the lights. With the ac it’s at about 75. My added electric cost is about $120 a month.for everything so it’s not cheap. If you put a 1000 watt HPS you will be fighting the heat, just letting you know. I also have two filters for the smell running in the room which have the same 6" inline fans so 4 fans in all. All fans are suspended by heavy wire to prevent the noise transferring through the floor upstairs. I can hardly hear anything running but if I had screwed the fans into the wood you would think a plane was trying to land on your house.lol I also have a fan circulating the air in the room and both filter’s exit back into the room. You might want to consider LED instead of the HPS.

New plan- indoor grow Goldleaf
4x4 tent 80" high
Viparspectra 1200w led
2 plants in 3 gallon pots
SCROG
Organic soil
Water- nutrients if needed
After research and taking everything that was said here this is what I decided.
Thanks again!

It’s gone a be enlighten soon, I am in the making of a clear up topic that is gone a put the evidence between all the non -sense of equivalent watts vs real draw, in combination of lumens vs watts and PAR and umols and to made a clear statement that will be on scientificly bases, not bla bla bla. …:smiling_imp::smiling_imp::wink::innocent::grinning:
