Switch to autopots when already sprouted?

Hey all! So I’m researching autopots more and have some questions. 2x4x6 ac infinity tent with 240w ACI ionframe 3 evo light. I like to run one plant at a time, so I’d go with the geopot 1 system. Now for the questions:

1.) my seedling is above ground and 5 days old in 70/30 soil and perlite in it’s 5 gallon fabric pot. Is it too late to switch it to 50/50 coco and perlite in that system using Jacks321 and added silica?

2.) any clogging issues or anything like that and do I need a bubbler? If so what size for a 12gallon reservoir?

3.) how do I manage ph and tds and what range for both with the system?

4.) if all of the above align and I order today, I figure a week to get here. Will it still be ok to switch and what setbacks should I plan for?

Pic of my seedling today.

If you are using a 3/5gal bag and grab a geopot autopot system you may be able to just drop it in without need to transplant if the res is used for water. Then you likely can change to bottom feeding your nutes once its time to add more like you would with top dressing. However, i’m not 100% on that.

@OGIncognito uses both the plastic bucket and geopot versions and should be able to help out.

I was thinking of that  I’m currently in a 5 gallon fabric pot with soil and perlite. I was reading that the soil might be too dense without the air dome, but I’m not sure. Trying to figure out if that’s the case how to insert the air dome with it already planted lol.

I tried a run in auto pots and soil but didn’t add additional perlite. The soil did stay too wet but I was using 2 gallon plastic pots. The fabric bags breath a lot more than plastic pots. @Serf had a good suggestion of just dropping it in a 3/5 gallon auto geo tray, I would continue to top feed until the roots are established :love_you_gesture:

I actually found a hydroponics store near me that has the system in stock! That’s exciting. So do you think my current set up would work with the drop it in? I do have a layer of perlite in the bottom so I could skip the air tray inside the pot I would think right?

Sounds like it’ll work well. I tried the air domes several years back but honestly didn’t see any benefit using them :love_you_gesture:

Perfect! Thanks! How would I manage the PH and PPM…dial it in before filling the reservoir or in the tray? The system is new to me.

You mix the jacks at full strength and adjust the PH then add it to the res when you’re ready to use the system :love_you_gesture:

Awesome! The full 12 gallons or a bit at a time? Sorry so many questions!

I mix a few gallons at a time in early veg. I typically mix 6-8 gallons a week after that to help mitigate and control the PH drift. You’ll need to check the reservoir PH periodically and adjust each week. I go in at 5.8 for coco and by day 4 this may be around 6.3. I add some PH down to keep it around 6.0. For the coco loco I use often I’ll set the PH for 6.3 and let it drift up to 6.8, if it goes above that I’ll adjust. I’ve never had it drift out of range for the coco loco and what I would recommend for you using soil :love_you_gesture:

Last one I think…bubbler in the reservoir or tray? Or not required?

I don’t use an air stone or wave maker. Keep me posted Grow Bro :love_you_gesture:

With auto pot it needs to be top fed for the first few weeks to get the roots to where they can bottom feed Vivosun has a few great YouTube videos explaining how to get it up and going

I use wave makers, are they needed, guess not just what I have done.

I haven’t t found a benefit from using wave makers, the PH still drifts and it increases the res temps :love_you_gesture:
