Hi. I recently moved into a house in rural central New Mexico (outside of Albuquerque) and frankly would NOT have moved here if I had known it was going to be stupid windy ALL OF THE TIME FOR MONTHS ON END.
So. That being said. My outdoor plants are taking a serious ass kicking ALL THE TIME and (as you can probably tell) it’s beginning to effect my mood.
Could somebody please suggest some kind of supports I could build or some advice I could use to MAYBE make my inhospitable almost uninhabitable place conducive to an outdoor grow.
Thank you.
I did see one outside grower put his plants with a 8 foot fence to their backs and then like a slanted frame with a outdoor shade screen in front of them…its on this forum somewhere.,. Thought it was a pretty good idea for extreme weather places
“Extreme” it is, my brotha! Extreme it is.
Thank you. Nothing makes me frustrated like watching my ladies take an @ss whooping day after day after day. I am sure you can relate.
Yeah, I fight the wind down here in the southeastern part of NM too… I do have a pergola, a 7’ high stone fence on the west and a stone/brick building north that I use to block wind and moderate the sun. Here a shot…
I just tranplanted those Gold Leafs to 10gl pots today. I like mine mobile and move them in a wheel barrow all around the backyard. The build is an old garage that I have inside girls growing you can see a vent on the building.
My recommendation is start growing outside on May day going forward that is what I am going to do. The March & April wind kicked my plants asses.
Wow mine might have been 60 degrees last night… Of course, I am seeing 95+ in the day time… Hot sunny ass place here… Arid as they say very little rain.
@ShockDog I like the ‘use existing structures for shelter’ idea. (that and @nmgeo has a wicked cool porch setup lol) If your winds generally come in from a particular direction the downstream side of that structure should be ideal as long as your also satisfied with the amount of light it receives as well.
