Anybody have any thoughts about what might be causing this browning on these Black Jack buds? I’m in Week 8 of flower. This is happening on about 5 other buds in different plants, but it doesn’t seem to be a lighting problem because I’ve attached pictures of a bud much closer to the light (last pic) and it is fine. Is it a maturation thing? Thanks for your thoughts.
Looks like the dead fan leafs may have caused some bud rot .
Or possibly the tip of that cola if it’s to coose to a light and it was light burned.
I would go over it real good and dig out any dead leafs asap.
Cut away any dead, molded or rotten material you see so it doesn’t spread…
Agreed 100%
The only weird thing is there isn’t any moisture the buds are dry AF and I don’t see any whips furry foam or mold or air any sing other than a brownish color? Its really strange
Carefully spread the bud apart where the fan leaves were dying and look at the inside. Hard to tell 100% from that pic but def could be especially with the dying plant material
I followed your advice I don’t see any sign of mold, furry fuzz or rot yet it makes perfect sense what everyone is saying.
I took a short video can I upload it?
@Jungianstrain if it is bud rot if you dig into it it’ll probably fall apart since it’s degraded. I’ve dealt with a few colas suffering from bud rot due to caterpillars and their sh!t. It’s just really difficult to diagnose with a pic. It’s just not the same as being there you know? Plus your plant is called Black Jack. What does that pheno look like mature?
Good Knowledge and thank you. Yes, I did dig into two or three buds that are discolored, and there is no other sign of what one would expect to find in a bud rot case. Which is why it’s a bit baffling, the weed smells good, pungent and is just presenting somewhat dried out looking and brownish. I don’t think it is just a pheno characteristic of the strain itself, but that is a good point as Black Jack may turn off color as it ripens.
I shot a short one minute video, but I can’t upload it.
Maybe you got lucky and just a strange scenario. Just keep a eye on it. Just not a good sign if the leaves just die where meets the bud. Sorry been away the holiday started earlt for me
It’s very possible there is no mold.
If it was me, I would keep any weird looking bits separately when drying and cureing when it comes harvest time, just to be safe.
If whatever effected bits are no good you would know it by then as it will smell funny and taste bad.
You could keep it or throw it away at that time.
I try to pluck my fan leafs off when they are less then 50% green careful to get the complete stem ots attached with at its base so nothing is left to rot…
I’m terrified of this actually I probably defoliate a little to much
.
But videos, have to post it on YouTube and then link that YouTube video here in a post.
Its kinda silly i know but that’s only way I know to post a video.
If no fussy bits and/or no “mildew” smell I would probably keep the dry bits and give it a go
Yes, very good point getting the complete stem out, I made that mistake a lot this grow and on these black jack plants, I did a lot of incomplete defoliation that left systemic potential for bud rot due to not removing the whole leaf. Live and learn. I have been removing buds as they show sings and hoping to salvage most of this grow.
Luckily I am doing three different tent grows, the others are super lemon Mac and Girl Scout cookies. In both of those grows everything looks good.
