Starting the grow, 1st couple of weeks

Hiya, just a couple of quick questions, i read that Coca mix doesn’t have any nutrients in it and so you need to add all, i am wondering if it would be better to get a potting mix to use maybe for 1st week or until it begins to grow?? This will reduce the chance of over feeding and killing it before i’ve started i am thinking! What do you guys think??
Also i am thinking about the lighting for the seedling could you recommend a suitable light whilst it is still a baby until it goes under the main 600 HP light, again this will reduce the risk of frying and killing it.
I do have a reflective light that i used for my tortoise so i am thinking maybe that would be good to use maybe until i switch the mix i could do both at same time, i guess it would be like a stepping stone stage.
Lol, sorry if the questions have been asked a million times, i do look for answers first always.
Thinking il change my name to Noob101  :upside_down_face: :joy:

@Pepperpot. A ph and tds /ppm meter are essential tools for any indoor grow. Especially in coco.
Apera and blue lab are both trusted names that many folks use.
The b l’s are a bit pricey but worth it IMO.:+1:
I’m not in coco but I’ll tag a couple folks that are.

Seedlings will do fine under a simple CFL bulb.

I can’t help you with coco planning, as I’ve never grown in coco. If you go for soil, please make sure you get a soil that is buffered for cannabis. Fox Farm is a popular choice. Whatever you do, stay away from Miracle Grow.

I would pick one grow medium and stick with it.

Welcome to the forum.

I start my seeds in rapid rooters when the tap root makes it way out of the bottom I move the rooter into the first pot with coco (some use solo cups ) you won’t need nutrients for the first 2 weeks. After that I usually start off with a very light feeding around 150-200 ppm . Some wait till the first leaves start to yellow before feeding . The plant will tell you when she’s hungry .
As far as lighting a daylight (6500k) cfl bulb will do just fine until she gets bigger

Many people start their plants directly in coco.
I personally start them in a 10 ounce cup with Fox Farms Light Warrior soil (which is intended for seedlings) and just give them plain water. Once they outgrow the cup, I transfer them to coco and begin feeding immediately.

A 23 watt 6500K CFL bulb is perfect for a single seedling.

Mix 7.5 ml of calmag per gallon of water and a very small amount of nutrients and water your coco (if from a dry block) I do with all my coco

Checked the seeds today in jiffy bag, roots are about 3/4 inch so put just under the pebble mix then sprayed lid of humidity dome and put into tent, will spray daily until i see a shoot then il start the lights 18/6. I bought a LED set as the HID light was too strong.

For someone that can kill a cactus it seems all to be going a little to smooth, long may it continue. :crossed_fingers: :four_leaf_clover:

Just curious, did you dampen the soil?

Almost forgot.

Congrats! Those four little babies got whatever life you give them now.

Babies!

i wasn’t sure whether to or not, was sure i had read somewhere not to, so i used a 3ml syringe to dampen 2 last night and not the other 2, so 2 are a tad damp 2 are not, the mixture was actually quite moist already tbh

Great start!!! Good luck with it! Set to watch

Lol i had a hamster once years ago called Trevor, he ate some weed, not that exciting i think he just slept more!!!

So on checking my babies yesterday they had broken though the soil, so i misted the domes and set the light up for timer

Then today i go up to check them and WOW!!!

Quite surprised that they shot up so fast, look a bit leggy to me so i moved them closer to light as you can see.
How long can i keep the dome on, guess they outgrow it fast, not watering just misting the domes, my LED is just 300w so i will need to get a 600 soon as 300 not strong enough i dont think
