First time grow - how’s it looking?

I’ve got a 2x2.5x5 tent using ACI 4” inline, filter and controller 69 pro.

I’m using 3 gal fabric pots with coco-coir + perlite 70/30.

Do they look ok? I feel like they were stretching so upped the light intensity on day 4 and today is day 5. Everything else is documented below.

Using a Spider Farmer SE300 EVO set 90 cm from the pot on setting 3, I had it on setting 2 up until day 4. Also using the T3 Cloudforge to control the humidity.

Is my humidity too high? Should I start slowly dialling it down by a few % each day?

I run my seedlings at 80 degrees F, and 80% RH

I think I may have compacted my coco-coir/perlite too much when preparing it. It still feels quite heavy or is that normal at this stage? When I’ve felt the top layer it does feel quite compact but near the edges less so. I used about 80% of a 50L bag for x2 3 gal pots. I filled it up to near the top but during watering it for the pre soak I noticed it went down a lot so I added more. I thought I’d only need say 15L a pot but definitely ended up using much more.

I might be overthinking all of this lol but it’s my first time so if I have made mistakes I’d rather try to catch them early.

Last night I noticed the tips of the leaves curling down a bit when checking after 24 hours of upping the light to 4 from 3 so I’ve put it back down to level 3 again. It’s back at 350 PPFD according to the PPFD Meter app. I also switched from 24/0 to 20/4 today to try and keep the DLI in range but even now it’s still a bit high - 25. But when I initially had it at 250 PPFD for the first few days it looked like it was stretching hence the decision to up it a level.

I’m certainly no expert, But I don’t think you can pack the coco too tight. If you have soaked it or watered it, there really is no place for that liquid to go until it evaporates out the sides of the pot. Stick your finger in it and see how far down you can feel moisture. The sprout looks very happy to me. 250 ppfd should be about right I think. Once it starts growing and establishing itself, then you can play more with the lights.

So I watered them last night for the first time after 2 days as I was waiting for the coco to dry up. I only gave them 115ml each and below is the mix as well the past 24 hour averages.

One looks to be progressing well but the other not so much. Bit concerned about the colour as I think it’s an early sign of some sort of deficiency? It’s weird cos I’ve been doing the exact same thing for both so would’ve expected them to be the same but I guess it doesn’t work like that.

What are your thoughts? Anything to be concerned about or just leave it be? I was thinking to water the “concerning” one 50ml with some nutes and fertilise but nothing more than 0.4 EC but as I only watered it last night and it’s still moist I guess that isn’t a good idea?

You might be just a tad heavy on the light. Mine about the same size did NOT like 375ppfd. I backed it down from 3 to 2.

I’m going to swap their positions today because when using PPFD Meter the slower one has a slightly higher PPFD reading than the other - only by 20-30 PPFD which might just be app inaccuracy but to test the theory I’ll try it and see if it makes a difference.

Could it be as simple as genetics? They’re both the same strain, same medium, same feeding so not sure what other environmental variable it could be.

Interestingly the smaller one popped 12 hours before the larger one, and at the time of planting it’s root it was about at least 3 times the size of the other one, but the slow starter has completely overtaken it now.

Day 15 since sprouting. Not sure what I’m doing wrong but one doesn’t look healthy. Is it a deficiency?

Below is my log in case anyone can see anything. I did also turn the light down to 250/260PPFD 3 days ago. Should I be watering to run off? Could it be like this because I haven’t done that since pre soaking it, which is about 20 days ago now? Or do I just need to up the nutes?

Yeah these were taken about an hour ago. I was a bit concerned with the smaller one and how it’s really droopy and yellowing.

Is my watering ok? That’s the part that I’m not too sure about. Should I be watering them bigger amounts, everyday instead of 2 days, should EC be higher?

Hang in there. They will start to pop any day now. They decided to build a root system before the above ground growth.

I start in solos with coco and I do water to a bit of runoff every day. By the time I up pot them to a larger pot, I water to about 20 percent runoff. I water/feed every day in coco, though not all do. Generally over watering in coco is harder to do than soil.

You may want to water in a bit closer to the root zone, in coco the food is in your water/nute mix.
