Starting in FFOF or FFHF? White Widow Autos?

Just want some opinions from my fellow growers. Anyone who has grown White Widow, WWAs or used either soils I want to know how you feel. If you’ve never used any of them I’d still like to know your opinions lol feel free to chime in cause I’m always willing to take advice or at least hear it. I’m still on my first grow currently and that one’s going just fine. I am currently also germinating my WWA seeds and let me tell you I’m going to have to plant them by tonight or tomorrow so please let me know what you’re thinking. I’m also thinking about starting them in smart pots (edit: not smart parts but jiffy pots) for a week or so then cutting the pots off before the roots hit the bottom and then transplanting them into a 5 Gallon bucket as their final home. So chime in and let me know

I use ffof from start to finish but I ow a few folks had issue with it during the seedling stage. I would also just keep them in the smart pots, if you want them in 5 gallon buckets use 5 gallon smart pots

After I germinated my WWA, I put them in jiffy pellets, and then straight into there forever homes (3 or 5 gall smart pots with ffof)… On my second grow and have a 100% survival rate so far. I have had 9 out of 10 WWA germinate, and 9 out of 9 sprouts survive (harvested 4 1st grow, have 5 going now)…

I actually mean the jiffy pots for seedlings, the ones that are supposed to be biodegradable. I’ve heard about OF burning them too and that HF is a lighter nute base

@Ron330 good stuff I’m liking how that sounds, I have both bags of soil cause I figure why not I’ll use em eventually with something I have more than 40 seeds just sitting around haha. How much did you harvest from you first 4 plants and how long did it take you from sprout to finish? Im wondering what one plant will harvest and how long they’ll take.

I’m new and 8 weeks into my first grow. Germinated 2 WW autos, 2 Gold Leaf, 4 unknown bag seed in glasses of water, 24 to 36 hours later I had tap roots coming from the seeds. Put them each in Jiffy peat pellets buried 1/4 inch deep and put them under a dome, spritzed them with water and they all popped over the next couple of days. After a week, when they had their cotyledons and one other set of leaves I moved them to peat pots of FFOF, after cutting off the mesh on the pellets. I had wetted the FFOF twice in the peat pots prior to transplanting. Kept them in the peat pots for a couple of weeks until they had 5 sets of leaves and then cut away the peat pots and planted them in their forever homes, 5 gallon grow bags. They all seem healthy and happy and I did not feed them anything until they were 4 weeks old. This has worked well for me but maybe I just got lucky. Didn’t have any issues with the FFOF at all. I will say though that I read and read this forum before I planted and since, giving me the idea to cut away the mesh on the pellets and about wetting the FFOF and flushing out some of the extra nutrients. It was great, like having someone here with me guiding me the whole way

@FreakyDeekie Yeah my first grow is going great I’m about 4 months in and only one of my 15 plants is budding but let me tell you they are looking great ranging from 1 1/2 ft - 5 3/4 ft. All mostly females so far or at least the ones that have shown. That’s what I was going to do with those jiffy pots is keep them in there for a week or maybe more depending on growth speed then cut them out of it and transplant them into their 5 galloners. I’m gonna b using my Nectar For The Gods nutes on the WWAs to see what a difference is. Supposed to have a better color, taste and overall quality and since one of my favorite strains was WW before I ever thought about growing I can’t wait to smoke that stuff lol

I have the Nectar for the Gods coming next week, that great deal on those quart samples  Both of my WWA’s are flowering and for whatever reason one of my Gold Leafs looks like it’s entering puberty as well!

Honestly I looked up how much everything would be on Amazon and HOLY CRAP you can’t beat the samples price! A more than decent amount of stuff for under 30 bucks was well worth it to me definitely. How long have you been growing your WWs? I want to get a rough estimate on when it’ll flower and what not after sprout. Hey you never know sometimes plants just have a mind of their own. I wanted to get the gold leaf but thought id wat for the Ww before I make another purchase.

@Manny_FTGUTube I got a total of 7.4 ounces from the first 4, would of been more, but had to toss about 10 grams due to bud rot… First one sprouted april 19th, last one harvested on july 21…

I haven’t cut that mesh on the peat pellets, I just let it go, the roots will get through it…

here is a link to my first grow, some pics and what not, if you get bored…

NICE almost a half pound? From the autos? Hell yes lol sounds like a good yield to me brother! Yeah that’s how I started maybe 6 but I’ve heard the mesh sometimes doesn’t degrade and prevents the roots from growing as much as possible but I think I’m starting them in it anyways. I’m definitely gonna take a gander at that right now.

Is that another brand from Fox Farms?

I think so but being lazy with my googling

Haha I feel you I’ll look it up later if anything

@Manny_FTGUTube

Germinated in starter plugs sitting in FFOF. After the spout I fill the rest of my 1 gal pot up with FFOF and haven’t had any issue.

My WW sprouted on July 3rd. Just fimmed her for the first time.

Nice I have rapid rooters but I’m not sure if I want to use them on these ww again I germed 3 in them but all 3 didn’t make it and I’m sure it was my fault cause I drowned them with a lot of water but I’ve had success with them before so I know it wasn’t the seeds unless they’re super sensitive. But my other two I germed, did just fine with the paper towel method as always have. I heard you shouldn’t top or fim an auto but I was thinking about doing the same anyways as well.

I’ve haven’t used either soils but from everything I have read if they were mine I would start in Happy frog, I wouldn’t want to risk the ocean forest being to hot but that’s just me, especially with autos since
They have less Veg time and less time to solve a problem if it arises.

Topped my BBA at 5th node. The two new colas that grew in are towering above the rest of the plant and are flowering like crazy. :scissors:

Yeah that’s probably what I’ll do, cause like you said I just don’t want to risk it even though I have about 15 other WW seeds I’d rather not kill anymore myself.

@Rugar89 I’ll probably end up topping the WW or maybe just one and see what the difference is and how they handle it.

I did a start to finish with Fox Farm ocean and ILGM ww seeds no nutrients and got over a ounce and a half got a little over 2 using nutrients
