Some coco coir questions

Hey all. I was wondering if you need to use cal mag even if you’re using jacks 3-2-1 in coco coir? I did buffer it, but I heard you need to use cal mag as a supplement as well.

Also how do you mix with recharge? Is it:

Nutes, cal mag, Ph, then recharge?

Part B is calcium nitrate. For each 100 parts of nitrogen it contains 116 parts calcium. Epsom Salt is magnesium sulfate with approx 10 to 1 ratio of Mg to Ca.
To answer your question: once the coco is buffered I do not supplement with CalMag.
Part B can be increased to raise Ca. Likewise, Epsom can be increased to increase Mg,
I find I need to increase Epsom salt 10 or 20% to 1.1 or 1.2 grams per gallon because the HLG lights requires more Mg

You shouldn’t need to supplement calmag with Jacks. You can tweak the numbers you put in to include enough calcium and magnesium without having to supplement with another product

No calmag needed. You can adjust your ratios for your plants needs. During veg, I run a higher partB (calcium nitrate), and during flower I back off a tad and increase partA. I’ve been using less Epsom as partA has magnesium in it. But should calmag issues occur, I increase the amounts of partB and Epsom.

Thanks all, also I just add recharge in the end if I wanna use it?

Yup, you should be able to mix nutrients, set ph, then add recharge if using. Don’t overuse the recharge either, once per week or so should be plenty good.

Does overusing it do something bad to it? Just wondering.

P.S. Can anyone explain how I should be watering coco? I made the mistake of starting in a 7 gal pot from seed. A bit hard to understand when to water and when to not

Yes, wastes your money. And we don’t want to do that.

Coco shouldn’t dry completely out. Starting in 7 gallon pot is overkill. Imo there is no need for 7 gallon pot at all when growing indoors. It will dry out slow and slow down your feeding intervals for at least a while. Which is really contradictory to the reasons for using coco. People growing with super soil trying to “water only” can make argument for a pot that large, it’s just not a great argument.

Yeah, I know. Didn’t know that until a bit later. Have my other two in 3 gals.
