My first grow is just about done four more weeks. I plan on a second grow about March or April and have a query of soil Ph. I have a large amount of soil left over from my first grow enough to fill my 4 x 10 gal. tubs for a second go round. However the question is concerning the PH run of this soil. It has been low in the 3.5 range right from the start (I did have some composted chicken manure added though in the first grow which I will leave out the 2nd grow). This potting soil is Moss, appears to be composted tree bark, and probably has composted pig manure. I would like to use it in my second grow so would I be best to thoroughly flush this soil till I get to 5.8 ish then use it or is it best to buy a different soil? The problem is assess to quality potting soil in this area though I think I have found a source…Thanks
My recommendation would be to buy a soil that is designed for potted plants, organic, and has no time release nutirents. I personally use the coco based Roots Organics and pH at 5.8 and my runoff is always around that.
I think with your soil you’ll be chasing the PH all grow.
I think your right. The problem I already have this potting soil so I am trying to justify using it up if I could get the PH under control and then would buy a better soil for the following grow. Just wondering if flushing this soil prior to using it would help to stabilize it.
You can try to change the ph with flushing, but I recently tried with soil that was coming out at 4.1. I put some much water through but it barely got to 5 and I gave up. Plus you are rinsing out stuff you want to keep in to begin with.
Ok. I think your right but I will check the next bag of soil if it read low PH I’ll get some better soil…thanks for the in put.
Yes I do. I use my soil over and over again. All I do is add a little of this to re - fresh my soil

Thanks. But the running down of all these components would be costly and difficult to acquire. I will look up the feasibility of this though…Thanks again
OK I looked up and sourced most except 3-4 componants.
Do you have a online source for Asomite elements, Humic Acid, Mycorrhizal Fungi? Is it critical if anyone or all of these are left out and is there a substitute one could use.
Do you let this cook prior to putting seedling in it?
Do you add any fertilizers during the grow?
thanks for the time…
OK I found every thing but the Trace elements…?
I’m out of town at the moment. I’ll be back after a while and we’ll talk a about it then. Ok
Great. Happy holidays.
