Hey growmies. I was looking to see if anyone had to offer a good soil mix for my next grow. I was thinking about doing something like FFOF mixed with FFHF with perlite, earthworm castings, and maybe some sort of top dress. Anyone have any suggestions or can offer me some help? This will be my second grow and I still have a bag of FFOF
Plan on feeding or just watering? Fast growth or laid back? If an ammendment I like Earth Dust for ease. A little slower. A little less yield. No hassles and premium flower.
What is it you are trying to achieve? Because FFOF is pretty good.
Garrigan is no longer with us but he was a mad soil builder. Here is his recipe:
I’m cool with feeding or just watering. I’m just trying to get out of using a purely hot soil as my base. I’ve heard people using strawberry fields, then FFOF, then happy frog on top at a 30/30/30 ratio but I wanted to get all of your guys’ opinions on all of this first.
I’m just trying to get out of the hot soil and expand my horizons a bit, just trying to do different things and experiment as well, see what works best for me
I understand.
Look at that soil recipe I posted. Any soil you build needs to be buffered into the correct PH range for cannabis.
You might think about top-feeding coco with something like Jack’s.
I’ve also seen some people reuse their soils, how do they do this? Isn’t the soil root bound mostly?
Ty for that link.
You’d have to break it up and both add N, P and K along with fresh soil buffers. Sounds like a PITA to me.
I personally love coast of maine bar harbor blend
I might give this soil recipe a go in the future. Sounds thought out
Maybe I’ll give this a go later too
Neve had a issur with burn out or anything i even use it for my garden outside
Like @Storm and @Measy and others that use Earth Dust I reuse my soil and start getting it ready in the spring. I just add more perlite and maybe some stuff I dried and ground up during the winter like egg shells, some fresh organic soil from the mom and pop nursery down the street, and my buddy’s soil primer which is no longer on the market. I add the earth dust base and keep it moist to let the bugs do their magic so I can plant in a few weeks. Which reminds me I need to order more dust.
Last year my bags sat outside all winter keeping moist with the snow that melts off. in a day. In the Spring there was just a stump and a few big roots left.
Easy has a pic of his and everything had been degraded except the stump.
I’ve been reusing my soil since my first grow almost two years ago. It definitely gets better with age - like me
What does the earth dust do? What’s it for and how does it help?
I started with recipe420 in the fall. Planted cover crops, then in the early spring chop cover crop, dice as fine as you can, throw on some dry fertilizer also-then cover with compost.
After the initial run, I started supplements from Build a Soil. Craft blend, re-amend,Aloe Flakes,Harmless Harvest coconut water.
I have gone a couple years with the same soil. Trying the no-till method. Before this spring I had to replant into new pots with recycled soil. Not a problem-like @JaneQP mentioned-it gets better with time.
I have had to manually remove the stump, but in the spring it lifts right out-rather easily.
Dont worry about the old roots-they will return biomass and nutes back to the soil. I keep something planted in my pots year round-keeping the soil alive.
Good luck!
