Hey I had a question is SoHum soil good for autos and is it really only add water only soil?
My understanding is in a 5Gal pot no soil will do a full veg AND flower with TRULY only water…
Im a hydro guy tho…

Hello @Kyler welcome to the neighborhood, I’m a living soil grower myself but with what I use I do top dress feed for flower. I am not familiar with sohum soil but I went to their website and took a very quick peek. It looks to be a water only soil so as long as you keep the soil critters alive you should be able to harvest with water only. I recommend reading about watering and caring for living soil before you start, you should be able to just get a charcoal filter and use your tap water without having to test or adjust for ph this will depend on your water. My tap water runs a ph of 6.3-6.6 and 250 ppm after going through my filter and I just check it every month or two to make sure it doesn’t change alot but other than that I don’t test the ph. Personally I would stock some of all or at least one of these three to replenish and or feed your soil critters like once a month as a tea , worm poo, fish poo, compost. Watering is a big part of keeping the soil alive just letting it go dry will harm the little critters so again read up on caring for your soil and your plants will be happy and healthy to harvest. @Kyler i forgot to share the water filter info here’s a link and a pic of what I use to be able to water straight from my hose. In winter I do put some water in jugs for a day or two just to warm it up, it comes out of the tap very cold

howdy @Kyler and thanks for the tag @anon4427090 tag me anytime, part of my deal is i love to help folks. welcome to the forums kyler, this is a great place to learn to grow pot with lots of friendly folks with a wide range of knowledge. do not be afraid to ask questions. both my parents were educators and i firmly believe that the only bad question is the one that doesn’t get asked.
i think @MeEasy has you well covered on this but i will put in my 2 cents or 4 cents as i go on and on lol. the local grow center “the treehouse” had their own supersoil and i used it the first 3 grows. i didn’t use it the 4th grow because they quit making their own but will be using it on my 5th grow as they found a place that will supply them with supersoil instead of them crafting their own. they had a small store and their supersoil was getting over 300 degrees sitting there in the back room lol. i will say that meeasy is pretty lucky. i put my water thru one of those … i think it is brita pitcher style filter and my water starts at 7.6 ph and comes out 7.2 after the filter so i have to use ph lower when i’m using straight water and ph raise when i put the nutes in that i use once a week. i use roots organic buddha bloom and buddha grow once a week when the watering gets below once a week. i think you will find that you don’t “have” to feed your plants, but they will like it if you do. i always ph my water to 6.4 or 6.5. they said when i started that i didn’t need to ph the water that the soil will buffer the water but i have found it is better if you don’t make the soil work that hard. they also said i wouldn’t need to feed the soil until you get to flowering but i have found that i have a problem keeping the fan leaves from turning yellow during the first 4 weeks of flower and that i can slow that down quite a bit by feeding buddha grow during it’s veg stage and into the first 4 weeks of flowering along with the buddha bloom that i start using along with it starting 3 weeks into flowering. yes you would probably be able to not feed your plants anything until later but the plants love a little extra. PLEASE REMEMBER do not use nutes at full strength when you start them, use half strength and see how your plant reacts. i got only 7 oz from 6 plants my first grow because i used full strength on my first feeding on first grow and fried 5 of the six plants. my second grow i got 17 ozs and my third i got 24 oz from 6 plants. on my first grow i got 3 oz from ILGM’s white widow 5 plants but the purple pine cone bag seed loved the feed and i got 4 oz from the one plant. i use regen a root, hydroguard, and fish sh!t every watering and that helps the roots and helps replenish the little critters that work in living soil because i like to let the soil get good and dry before i water again.
the most important item in your grow is your light. if you have bought one great, but i wouldn’t do any buying without talking to our local lighting guru @dbrn32 he is incredibly knowledgeable on lighting and can make sure you are going to get what you need for your plants to thrive.
second, patience… this is very important
and third, pay attention to what your plant wants, not to a schedule that is convenient to you. on my first grow i watered too early because i was watering two plants at a time and one of them was ready for water and the other wasn’t quite ready for it but i watered it anyway and turned it herme because of the stress.
i come from an engineering background and have no skills at growing plants but i am learning and if i can get pot out at the end then anyone can learn to do it also lol. keep in mind that there are lots of people that get nothing out of their first grow (the learning curve is steep and everyone makes mistakes their first grow) but lots get at least something out. btw, mistakes happen after the first grow also, but by then you are less likely to do really bad harm to your plants because of the experience that you gained. you have to learn to crawl before you learn to walk or run so be patient with yourself and with the plants. to me, learning to grow pot is like learning to do math. addition begets subtraction begets multiplication begets division begets algebra begets geometry begets calculus and trig. i love growing pot because i’m retired and it is an open ended subject that you will continually be building your knowledge base on.
there are as many different ways and strategies as there are growers so you need to find what works for you.

I feel like tdubwilly used the sohum soil and was fairly happy with it. He did give teas and maybe some other stuff too. Unfortunately, he is no longer with us to reference.

Old thread but I’m in Flower 4 using SoHum on my 4th grow and love it! While I did use a foliar spray during veg and am running an AutoPot with a fraction of Emerald Harvest goodies, I haven’t touched the dirt. The pot maintains about 3/4" of water and my temp/humidity is well- controlled; the SoHum maintains a moisture/humidity level sufficient for the entire grow. It is hot so don’t drop seed or seedling directly into it… transplant only. Had to learn the hard way! Alternatively, my previous grows were with AP4P Super Soil and it was full cycle with water only as well.
