Well first a little info. Are you going indoors or outside?

Indoor for sure

Got an idea of how many plants you want to grow at a time?

One or two would be tops

Okay then let me give you the rundown of things you will need. You will need a tent or free spare room to grow, Pots and growing soil, fertilizers, exhaust fan and carbon filter, light timer, and lights that`s the most expensive part.

Well I recommend HLG lights, heck everyone loves there LED lights here on this forum. They can be kinda pricey but if your only going to grow 1-2 plants you could get away with there HLG 100 V2 3000k light, you would need 1 light per plant but its there cheapest light at $150 but its good…unless you got a lot of money you want to spend then by all means get their $800 model.

Open up your check book and write a blank check to GROWING DOPE. Be careful my friend @Potato, this is a very addicting hobby, for sure. It has left me hollering more, more, more. That being said, welcome to the forum/family. I will tag you into a couple of my journals. Like @darkillusion3526 HLG are hella lights, I have 5 of them but, not the only lights that will grow weed. I think realistically, the best thing to do would be to think, do I want 1-2 plants, 2-4,4-6. So, you don’t find yourself wanting an upgrade, from the git go. Then you need to decide soil or hydro, photos or autos. Do yourself a favor do some research and come up with a plan before you start purchasing. I would definitely plan on future expansion from the beginning. Do yourself a favor don’t buy any cheap LED’s from the internet as, we have mostly all done this. There are a lot of knowledgeable people here and we all want to see you succeed. That being said, let the fun begin. Is I can be of any help just let me know. Keep you and yours safe during these trying times. :+1: :v:

Welcome to the forum. The first thing you should do is set a budget. How much are you willing to spend. You could easily spend $1000 on the light alone and this is where I would plan on spending the most. Give us some basics. Budget? How much you want/need to grow? Size rent you’re looking to purchase.

Well I figured being stuck at home n all I could grow a few things for something to do. Budget surely isn’t limitless with not working at the moment.

I do have some led grow lights. Far from the best and probably not enough wattage if you guys are spitting out 1000w but they’re doing just fine for vegetables

pictures a few days old.

Its not a 1k watt lights. That is marketing BS to n which they sucker you into buying their subpar crap.

HLG lights is the way to go. If you like to smoke every day, then you need a good light. No substitutions can be made. Now if you only smoke 1 gram a month, then you could get away with subpar lights. I don’t recommend this route.

Nice grow set up! Your plants look great. That set up would be great for getting your seedlings started.

So it sounds like we hit your upper limit with a $1000 light.

I will give you some estimates by no means rake these a perfect. Let’s say you want to grow one plant at a time this would be my starting point.

2x2x48 tent $75-$100
Hlg-135 kit $200 (135w light)
Jack’s nutrients they are inexpensive and easy $75
4” carbon filter $40
4” fan $40–&125
Ph meter $50
Tds/ppm meter $25
Misc pots, timers, scissors, thermometers, duct work, etc. $50-$200

So, with my estimates, on the high end you could be $1000 low end $500. Again all estimates but should be close. This is only my opinion I’m sure others may be by and say I’m nuts.Recommendations don’t skimp on lighting if you can help it. Get a good ph meter. Unless the strong odor of cannabis is not a problem get a decent fan and filter combo, plus they help with heat control.

If you have a grow store in the area look there they may have kits set up. That is how I got started and then upgraded from there.

Hope this helps.

If you start small. I would go with a 2x4 tent and a hlg260xl light.
And the reason. Fits 2x4 perfect and grows awesome buds. If upgrading you only need to buy the same light. 4x4 would be 2 lights.
I started small in a 2x4 tent. Got me a sweet vivosun 300watt blurple hahaha junk but I did buy a second one so I had what I thought to be enough light. $75 each so I’m down $150 and have this beautiful pile of lights to collect dust.

So I upgraded lights. Did tons of research ( before I found these forums) and came up with some black dog 200watt lights. Very nice construction and run cool. They grow nice buds but, they cost me $529 each. So now I have spent $1058 on 2 more lights. Wow this is great. Then I upgraded and now need more light.
These lights are sub par compared to the hlg tech with the latest greatest diodes. I have again wasted money. I mean I can use them but I wont waste to add more of the same at those costs when I can buy hlg at a lower price with a better lighting technology.

So I can now buy 4 hlg 260xl for my 4x8 tent at a cost of around 1400 or so. This is absolutely awesome price. Considering if I wanted to continue with blackdog lights I would have to spend over $3,000 on top of the $1058 I spent already just to get the coverage for a 4x8 tent.
Si with that being said. Just jump to the top from the start and figure 1 hlg260xl for each 2x4 area. Start small with 1 light and get more as you expand. Buying anything different would just be money for an item that needs to be replaced.
There are other hlg kits and can use those as reccomended by other growers here.

Ahhhhhh what a fabulous babble I have made here to explain how I have wasted way to much on lighting by not purchasing the proper light from the get go.

Do I sledge hammer a vivosun now ?

I believe many have gone down this same road :+1: :v:

Wonder how they would be for vegetables lol

@Potato the vivosun will grow tomatoes. But they may make better wheel chocks for my van so I can work on it lmao. Ooh or Christmas lights for the porch !!
The black dogs are fine for whatever. Just way to expensive and lacking the newest tech.
