I have bought bone meal, blood meal, kelp meal, and azomite. But as i research Google it says i need about 50lbs of azomite for that much base soil. Just seems like allot. So i’m just looking for a recipe to follow also if i need or should use any other minerals. I feel like i need some Epsom salt and maybe lime
How much soil are you wanting to make @David1974 you can take manure and compost it with grass, sticks, leaves and break it down and then you can use all other ingredients perlite etc.
@Reed71 the manure is already composted. I’ve got a compost pile started but I’ve got to plant 16 ladies in the ground the last week of May. And then another 12 auto ladies a few weeks later. I know I’ve got 1000lbs of cow manure compost as a base. I’ll use every bit of it. I actually probably could use more
Go to your local feed n seed and grab a huge bag of perlite. Youll want plenty of drainage and dont want the compost to over pack your roots. Some folks use agricultural vermiculite also.
Gotcha @David1974 happy growing
@ChittyChittyBangin yes i will do that or I’ve looking into other things like rice hulls. I think i also forgot to mention I’ve got worm castings also.
BioChar is another great aeration addition.
Without soil testing you’re only guessing. It’s gonna need AG limestone, but your pH may dictate gypsum/both. You can add granulated Langbeinite (mineral) for K, Mg & S. Azomite is pretty well rounded on minerals. Most people use at least 3 types to round out, but no need outside.
I will get a ph tester. This soil will be added to the garden and plants go directly in the ground. This will be my first time ever using a ph tester. I’ve always used the cow manure compost never used bone meal blood meal kelp meal or azomite. The azomite when i learned how it suggested the soil test. I’ll look in to the rock dust
Suggested application amounts in lab test analysis will balance that particular sample. Since outside Azomite is more than enough.
@Budbrother the more i read and see the more i seem to think i should use the azomite last as a top dressing. I seen a couple videos where they said this. I’m not scared of the blood meal or bone meal as I’ve used them before. Kelp meal is new this year and the azomite is also.
Good morning growmie I like your determination
@Jaysittinback 16 photo ladies and probably 12 autos
@David1974 All I’m using is Black Kow mixed with a potting soil that contains perlite I’ll use some fish Fertilizer along with the Jack’s Outdoor Cannibus and Hemp Fertilizer I have 12 plant’s that’s going to be all I can tend
I’m not using the black kow brand but basically the same thing just a different brand. After days off research and other people’s opinion. I will now be digging a 24-30inch deep and 3ft×3ft hole and sprinkling some bone meal on the bottom. I’ll mix a couple table spoons each of the bone blood and kelp meal and 5lbs of worm castings into the soil when i fill the hole in. Then I’m going to very lightly sprinkle some azomite on top of the soil. Ill water every few days unless it rains until i plant in about 2-3 weeks.
My cow manure compost will get worked into the top 6 inches and also I’ll be getting some peralite
That will definitely work! You can basically make all kinds of soils after a period of time my plant’s are growing in nothing but the ground one thing I do is treat my holes for cutworms a few weeks before I plant Learned my lesson lost about 10 big plant’s they cut all the roots it was a sad day
Never heard of bad worm before. My biggest issues are leaf septoria stalk borrers and those leaf hoppers(that’s what i call them) they are like tiny grass hoppers. Chew on plants and somehow make them grow a dark purple almost black and the plant gets really larfy in that spot. And i search everyday for the recipe to stop septoria best i ever do is contain it. I spend hours everyday at the end of the season spraying and picking infected leaves off
Spores have infected the area. Could add a fungicide or Sulfur to treat plot.
Alfalfa meal amending. Get the nitrogen up to help fight off, and it adds Trichoderma to help prevent the septoria taking hold.
I mean the entire woods ditch line and just about anything else is always infected by it. My plants are in the middle of the yard where it’s mowed. The septoria is everywhere here. Cooper fungicide works good but i can’t spray during flower. Last year i used a combination of Dr zymes pure crop and lost plant therapy. I was told i could use the garden friendly fungicide during flower so I’ll probably throw that in the mix this year. I have kept all debris off my garden floor. I know the septoria can live in the soil over the winter so for the last 3 years I’ve tried to remove all unwanted plant matter out and away from the garden.
I had some septoria on the leaves last year I had the handle on mold it was controlled my worst problem was Caterpillars they were imbeded in the Bud’s I had to throw some away I’ll be using some BT along with Trishield this year
Sulfur is antifungal and what is in most 3-in-1 sprays for flowering safe. You could also try spreading powdered milk over plot without adjusting for lower pH like S would over time. The Lactobacillus of milk would help destroy the spores and provide probiotics to soil. This increases soil pH.
