I think you need to raise that led for 300 watt needs to be at least 2 feet above more like 2.5 feet. @Bobbi
Okay, will do. The tent isn’t heating up very fast and I have to use heating pad on new seeds. The seedlings I have in the tent are the sickly ones. Should I keeps all tent openings closed so it heats up in there?
Well it would be good if you could get the temps in the tent to about 77-80 degrees and no lower than 10 degrees less at night.
If you need to seal it up to get those temps then do that. What is the temps of the space the tent is in? If it’s below say 65 you may need a small heater.
I just went down to raise up the light and temp was up to 70. I left all the openings in the tent open, just zipped it up. The basement stays at 68 degrees year round.
Ok @Bobbi that’s a little cool for sprouts. Try to get it as close to 80 as possible for them and they will be a lot happier for the first week or so
I’m only running one of the 300W lights. Do you think it would get too warm in tent if I tied off or stuffed some towels in the openings. To keep it warmer?
Tent opening? @Bobbi
Large opening on top of tent, one on two of the sides, you know what I mean? All the openings (holes with attached ties) made for fans, duct, cables, cords, etc
I’m editing this today, Monday. Temp is 64 inside of tent this AM. Brought 1" sick plants back upstairs and put back under the gooseneck lamp. Hope one is enough because new seedlings are under the other two. See photos. I lost one of the sick plants, other 3 are coming back.
Question about new tent in basement, I thought the 300W LED light would keep the tent warm. Apparently I’ll need a heater. I see they make energy efficient heaters and wondered if this site recommends one over the others? I really didn’t want to be running all these electrical items and running up our electrical bill. When I eventually run both my 300W LED lights, I hope the temps go up in the tent. Right now it seems dumb to run all that equipment just for 3 little 1" plants.
Nope, they don’t need a 300 watt LED for a couple more weeks. LED lights do run warm, but they aren’t heaters. If you seal up all the holes in your tent that you aren’t using and keep it zipped up maybe… but you need close to 80 during the day and low 70’s at night.
Here is what I use. It has a thermostat and 3 fan settings including one with no heat so you can run it just as a fan.

Thanks, I’ll order it. That will be big enough to heat my tent 6x4x4? I was wondering if I could put my new seedlings in the tent too, along the other side with my small grow lights, keep everything in one warm place? Or do the large 300W give off too much light for the new plants? I wouldn’t have the new babies under the 300W but they would be on the side of the light as far away as I could get them.
I think that little guy will cover that space, but let’s get my buddy @Countryboyjvd1971 over here to opine.
Also, I think you could put them all in one space. Maybe a piece of well secured cardboard or a sheet to separate the areas so the light stays where it is supposed to?
I envisioned using cardboard or a sheet around the young seedlings to keep the rays off of them, but I see guys all of the time with those lights over sprouts and seedling, though I didn’t put mine under LED until they were about 2 weeks old.
That should be enough room in the tent to maintain a save area around anything hot or whatever. Maybe even an old tarp that could be trimmed to shield them a little bit. Only a couple of weeks max.
I guess I’m confused about the big 300W lights. You don’t normally use them for wee plants or seedlings? I should only use the big lights once the plants get bigger, maybe how tall? If that’s the case, I’ll just leave all the little plants upstairs where it’s warmer and use the little grow clamp on lights I have. But I will order the space heater. I might have to pick up another clamp on grow light for the seedling since I have8 all spread out.
You can use them for seedlings. But I think they’re a little too much for sprouts. I would keep doing what your doing now (upstairs) until you can keep the temps up in that tent. That’s more of a concern than the lights.
I think you’ll be fine with that to heat your tent
Just be careful nothing is to close to front of it
Always think fire safety
I personally use an oil filled type heater in my grow room for safety reasons
Thanks @bob31 sorry for the long reply time busy busy lol
I put my sprouts under a 300watt led
I use it from germination till they go into my veg tent
You don’t need 300watt for sprouts but they will grow fine under them it’s just over kill I only use mine because i have an extra 300 watt light but it not necessary
thanks @Countryboyjvd1971 I should have mentioned one of the oil filled heaters as well. @Bobbi
All good just my paranoia kicking in lol
I’m don’t fear much but fire scares the hell out of me bro I keep fire extinguishers all over the dam house lol
I’ve known to many FDNY guys and heard to many horror stories
Yep I hear ya. I won’t buy a heater that doesn’t have tip over protection either
Thanks for information guys! Maybe I need you boys to describe seedlings from sprouts? Are sprouts what you call a plant after they have so many leaves? I ordered the heater you suggested and also got a surprise from Fed-Ex. Another tent?I don’t remember if I mentioned it, they refunded my purchase price of my tent and they told me to just keep it. I repaired the stitching myself and the tent is good as new. I’m not sure why they sent another tent, I didn’t order it.
