Several questions about my white widow plant

Question from a fellow grower:

Should I transplant, can I top main shoot, will 3 gal smart pot be
sufficient? This will be her second nut feeding since 2 ayes ago. The
pot she’s in now is 6 inches round 4 inches deep. I welcome any advice.

Adorable! Lol. Is it an autoflower or photo

It’s a 17 day old white widow fem.

When I transplant do I moist the new soil before I put my plant in bigger pot or after. I still would like to know when is a good time to top the main shoot, I definitely don’t plan on doing it before I transplant but how long should I wait after transplanting

@fella1451 Looking pretty good. I still have my WW in a pot the same size as yours and it is twice a big. Not tall wise but bushier cause I have been topping. I didn’t top until day 23 from seed. I let them get just a few days out of the seedling stage before I topped but really it depends on how quickly your little one is developing. I just topped my girls for the 2nd time at day 34, 11 days after the first round. I am still in the half gallon pots but do plan on transplanting over the next few days. Since I only have 3 this time and I have a large Scrog area I am going to go into 5 gallons but moving forward with 6 plants I am going to go with the 3 gallon all fabric smart pots.

I have two WW seedlings growing they are both 1 month old and thriving. I decided not to transplant these two for much longer then the two I transplanted way, way too early… I don’t think you should transplant this plant until at least a month old… they Hate being transplanted so the longer in the small pot the better… there’s no hurry and no sure Science to any of this… your decision…

Some people would argue that there is in fact a science to transplanting your plants.

It was either @latewood or @MacGyverStoner that gave a perfect description of when to transplant, and exactly why.

You transplant at certain times in your plants life. This way you avoid too much shock, but you also give your plants more room to expand their roots.

Staying in the same pot for too long will cause your roots to be root bound, and this in turn causes the plant to stop growing as she was.

I get what you’re saying though, it’s all about how well your methods are working for you! We all have our own ways of doing things :v:

Look at this GroweFAQ I made for members.

You can see that I had quite a large plant, almost root bound before transplanting. These 2 Gold Leafs were so vigorous; I had to take my tent down around them and open the room, as they got too big for a 4’x4’x7’ tent

Yes agreed, I do think that each grow, each plant is unique… and maybe I will see what works and doesn’t work but I do think that they love it in the small pot… so I’m thinking along these lines, that the ‘shock’ will be much less if they get more time in the small pot…

Water the plant to be transplanted well, this will help it to stay together during transplant

Put it in its new pot and fill in around it, then water the whole thing well

Give it a few days or so before you top it
-good luck
