Anyone encounter a seed(s) that wouldn’t crack after a 24 hour soak?
Sometimes they take a bit longer, once it sinks you can other wait a bit longer or take it out and do the paper towel method. I do this until the tap comes out a bit then place in a rapid rooter.
Some are just bad too.
Warmer water and a couple of drops of hydrogen peroxide…
Also you can lightly run the seed over a rough surface to scratch it a little…
How long before the seed is in danger of “drowning”
I put into a paper towel if not open after 48 hours.
I just had 10 Mexican sativa seeds from Sensi Seeds.
48hrs in water
12 days in paper towel, first one has a tap root.
Next 2 showed two and three days later…
Only 2 broke soil surface and are growing.
The rest were duds
Wow. I hope I’m not waiting that long lol. I planned this grow on a tight schedule. 2 out of the 3 showed the tap after the soak. 3 rd one still nothing . I threw a fourth seed in just to be safe.
Ya, if you don’t get it to crack in 48 hours I would go to lightly damp paper towel inside of ziplock with air trapped in it. Then place on something warm like cable box. Try couple drops of peroxide in water too.
Sometimes they never crack… it is what it is…
Only so much you can do…
That’s why I bought them from ILGM. Always nice to know they will back there there product with a guarantee.
And that’s why we all grow ILGM strains
Older seeds will sometimes take longer to crack open and I’ve had to keep some in water for 48 hours and then paper towel ?
And as peach fuzz mention sometimes they don’t crack
H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) stops them from drowning by providing dissolved oxygen in the water, it also stops mold from attacking and killing the sprout. Too much will burn the plant tissue and can kill it.
I soaked a white widow seed for 9 days before I saw a root just recently
@Countryboyjvd1971, agreed! I’ve had some random germination issues with ILGM, but nothing that cannot be chalked up to nature’s variables.
I’ve been very impressed with IGM seeds viability as well as the plants genetics.
I do wish there were more regular seeds available as the curious wannabe breeder in me is always thinking about a “new” strain to breed. But the feminized seeds do make the act or straight cultivation easier.
I’m a 1971 as well!
I bought 5 Hindu Kush from S S and only one CRACKED, they replaced them pronto with 5 Afghanis…fingers crossed
I bought S S through a seed dealer and they have not responded to my email about germination.
I bought mine direct from S S in Amsterdam…maybe because you bought them from a third party…still its not very cool of them…mail them again and let me know if you have any joy, if no joy I will inform Softsecrets of this matter as every serious Euro Herb Grower reads their free newspaper and website
@James68 Are you in the US? S S site says they don’t ship to the US. I would have rather bought straight from them.
I was a little upset as the seeds did not come in the breeder pack. I’m still second guessing if they are what I ordered.
I am in the UK…its a bummer they don’t ship to the US but if its any consolation they do not ship to Afghanistan or India either, weird fuc*ers if you ask me !
I for one am going with Mr Bergmans seeds next grow, his Auto Goldleaf looks like the food of the gods. …Further !
@James68 I’m growing ILGM Afghani, Northern Lights, White Widow auto, Blueberry auto, Gorilla Glue, Grand daddy purple, Sour Diesel, and Durban Poison.
The mature ones: Afghani, Northern Lights, and White Widow Auto are all progressing nicely.
The ILGM strains are the dog’s balls! (Had to throw that one in as you are from the UK).
I think you will be very happy with ILGM.
