Thank you very much, you’re very kind.
I’m on my fourth Pot for Pot kit and I like them. I will say that the plant will likely want some nutes going into flower, as some leaf yellowing starting around that time is common, and the kit doesn’t contain any soil amendments … my only thing about the kits. But no complaints otherwise - I haven’t had any other problems, the soil is great, the customer service is great, and I really like their mission to get people growing. Just follow the instructions and don’t overwater. They are big on watering when the pot is light, which has worked very well for me.
As far as seedlings in the jiffy pellets, like the instructions say, only keep it moist, not wet. I “water” them with only a few drops here and there on the outside of the pellet, just enough so that it isn’t dry, but a tad moist.
Whenever you have questions, feel free to email their help, they are good at responding. As well, this forum is wonderful.
Thank you, good to hear from someone else you used them! I have a complete nute system called “Recipe for Success” though I know not to start any nutes for a while. I set up the pot today, did all the mixing etc - it said to do it in advance. I held back a cupful, I think I will try the way Hellraiser said to start the seed and I’m going to use the same soil it will be living in. The topsoil mix is nice and light which seems much better to me.
I think I overwatered the other pot which caused all my current problems. While I’m getting the new plant started, I’m going to let her chill in the tent because why not.
Sounds good!
So not using the jiffy pellet, is that correct? I have a slight preference to not use them, so I’d be interested to see what you do/Hellraiser’s suggestion. You held back a cupful … to have more soil to cover the stem?
No, on Hellraiser’s thread he plants his seeds into solo cups with the same soil he’s going to pot them in. So I added some soil to a solo cup - some of the “super” on the bottom, and the top got the topsoil. I’ll plant my sprout into that cup, and then later transplant into the large pot. It made sense to me, so I’m going to give it a try.
I have a friend that started in a Pot for Pot about a week before my sad attempt. He’s got a real plant. I have a seedling. He did use the Jiffy pellet.
Ah, I see. Solo cups are a popular common way to go.
I followed this advice too. I even stubbornly left one in my solo cup.
Sounds like an exception to the rule. I don’t like peat in any form. It’s a bother.
Oh, also don’t beat yourself up that one seed produced an ugly seedling. I’ve had about 5 ugly seedlings, and a few that just died because they felt like it. I planted two dying seedlings in the same pot and they thrived afterward.
I will say that the new soil is much lighter, what with the “topsoil” being pretty much coco and perlite. I even went through the “super soil” at the bottom and pulled out coupla twigs and the like.
Since the PfP recommends letting the newly made pot rest for up to two weeks before planting, Loretta gets the tent until then. After that, if she’s still alive, she’s becoming a “house plant”.
@Hellraiser
Quick question on myco if I may. My Pot for Pot came with a tiny packet to mix in with the topsoil, which I did.
Would it be a good idea to buy some more to put in when I transplant? I think the amount that went into the soil was around a teaspoon. They want you to chill the pot for couple weeks, which I’m doing prior to dropping my next seed - which is going in the solo cup.
Thank you!
Definitely a good idea to use for transplant
Thank you! I’ll go ahead a order a small quantity, seeing as there’s only one plant.
Yep, good to add more myco when transplanting.
Thank you! Last thing I want to do is “overdo” anything this time.
Well good morning everyone. I had put a new seed in to soak on Saturday, by Sunday she split her shell so I planted her. It’s early on Tuesday here, and she is starting to come above ground. I’ve been weighing her Solo cup, and she’s lost an ounce of water since Sunday, but she got 3.5 ounces into the cup before planting so no water!
Oh and I did use the Mykos that @Hellraiser uses, I had to laugh when the packet arrived, it’s enough for 20 plants. I hope if I keep it sealed tightly it will last for a while, the expiration date is in 2022.
And I apologize for fussing so much over one plant. I appreciate the help I’ve found here very much. I’m hoping to be successful, and if so I could easily expand in the future.
I think I speak for everybody when I say that an apology isn’t needed. Plus, it’s not just “one plant”, but also our learning, our future grows …
Well thank you, that’s very kind. It’s almost embarrassing to be such a rank newb when I’ve grown roses, orchids, and African violets plus done hundreds of “experiments” growing all kinds of things with my students in the classroom.
This is a different ballgame, and the stakes are much higher (heh).
Oh, friend, we have all done it. Guaranteed
Absolutely.
Exactly. It’s never just the one plant you’re handling. It’s 100% knowing what is happening and learning to read the plants so your grows always improve.
You will be, too
From your lips to the FSM’s ears. I’ve been buying weed since 1975 and dammit, I’m tired of it. Plus I like knowing where it has been.
