He chopped off her top above node 4, and when the two new branches developed, he chopped those too. And yes, he tied her down, he removed the ropes at 9 weeks.
I didn’t because first grow, but he was also on his first - guess he’s just bolder.
I’m going to try topping one, fimming another, and LST only on the third - assuming I get three healthy seedlings.
Once those are raised, I have five fem Gold Leaf seeds. One of the main reasons I wanted a taller tent, actually. God help me when I start with the photoperiods though…
Yes, he cut her off with scissors below the node. I was shocked when he did it.
From an extended PM conversation with him:
I topped the main stem and a week later, the two branches it formed. That gave me 4 main branches. In addition, I did something unconventional. Instead of topping the four main stems a third time, I topped two side stems, when they got to the same height of the four pruned stems. That gave me 8 main stems, although the 4 original stems are thicker than other 4. I’m hoping they will catch up. By bending colas to open up the middle of the plant and tucking fan leaves, I have been able to get 12 colas, maybe more, to the top of the plant.
Here’s a pic of his girl the day of the first cut.
She’s looking great and damn she’s getting THICK!
Can’t wait for my girl to start smelling more. My whole bedroom already smells like her, but want that nice pungent smell that slaps and tickles the nose at the same time. Lol
1/1/21 Day 54 - Heading toward the finish line, it’s certainly in sight there on the horizon.
A few close ups for this morning. She’s going to need water today.
1/3/22 Day 56 - End of week 8. I think she’s getting ready to finish up. Her pistils have mostly turned orange. They haven’t “dried” yet, but something about the way she’s acting is different. The buds are changing to a faint purple color all over the plant, and she’s using her water oddly - only drinking at night? I’m going to have to find out if this is a “thing”, but for the last three days she’s barely used any during the day by weight. Then next morning, she’s used one to two pounds. I decided to turn her back to 18/6 today - mainly to allow her to have a bit more time in the “cooler” room - and I’m going to look back to the DLI thread to see what’s best for this stage of development. Currently sitting at around 40.
Good to check out, and also as she becomes closer to harvest, you might want to watch the amount of light and heat she gets. My understanding is that keeping up the same light and heat until the end can contribute to foxtailing. I had this happen with my last plant. It’s not a biggie, but new bud development near the end can cause “mixed smoke”, as some folks have called it, and some folks separate or throw out those newer buds. Just something to be aware of, and maybe you wouldn’t mind “more bud”, even if it’s a bit immature, however you wish to handle that possibility.
How do her trichomes look?
Besides Recharge, what are you feeding her? She looks so good.
She just got Sugar Daddy and water today, but I have also been using some of the nutes from the Techniflora line, mostly Sugar Daddy as mentioned, Awesome Blossoms, and MagiCal. Tiny touches of their BC Bloom formula and Red B-1.
I’ve also used Recharge. She got a good dose as soon as she needed water following the big flush.
Her leaf temp was 71 degrees an hour ago, tent’s at 74, and RH at 40. I can’t move her light without taking things apart way too much for my current situation. I also set her up so that at night, the temp is the room is dropping into the low 60s, and I changed her back to 18/6.
I took a couple of pretty crappy microscope shots this morning, as far as I can tell, I have a lot of clear still, and some cloudy, no amber. I’ll have to see if I can upload them, they are not cooperating with my computer.
Actually those pics are fairly clear, the optics. Yeah, she still has a bit to go, but keep an eye on the trichomes at this point.
My plant is on day 74 from sprouting and just showing some colored pistils in the past week. Man, she is so slow! Looking again like a Valentine Day ± harvest, and not a Groundhog Day harvest.
Thank you, I think she’s in her last week or two at most. Just guessing, but once she decides to do something, she does it IMMEDIATELY. Those colored pistils jumped up practically overnight.
I’m laughing, because my buddy’s Darsadeen is a month ahead of me, but I am probably going to harvest around the same time, or possibly before!
Interesting, yeah, Lucy is amazing. I’ll be curious how your other LSD plants grow. Aren’t you also going to grow other strains? Sorry, I don’t recall what you wrote about that.
Lucy is so opposite of mine, haha! Whenever mine starts to do something, I think, “Oh great, here we finally go!” And then it’s back to her snail’s pace. When my current one is finally done, I’m going to do another White Widow that have been quicker grows, and I’ll practice torture techniques on it. After I’m comfortable with training, I’ll do another Afghan, plus I’ll allocate plenty of grow time, just in case slower growth is normal with ILGM Afghan Auto.
Well, you know to keep an eye on Lucy’s trichomes - check daily.
I have three more LSD auto seeds, I’m growing them next. I also got 5 Gold Leaf Fem seeds, kinda an oops in the ordering as I planned to stay with auto. They are next - thought no way am I growing 5 at once. I’m only doing the three because of how shrimpy Lucy is - though I know plenty of this type that grew a lot taller!
My actual next huge project is going to be figuring out what to do with the trim from Lucy’s harvest. So much frost on her sugar leaves… And hubby won’t smoke, so I need to make some edibles for him. He needs pain relief (long covid symptoms) and help sleeping.
For me, I just want some killer bud to smoke. From how Lucy looks and smells, I think she’s going to fill the bill.
Partly I think it’s just genetics. But the other part of that is stress. In my (limited) experience, plants tend to excrete more trichomes and consequently more odor when they’re either fed, fat and happy, or stressed out. His plant looks good, nice and healthy - so I’m assuming he hasn’t done anything to stress her out (extreme temp drops at night to simulate winter approaching, for example), not gone the “extra mile” to get her to the “fat and happy” stage.
Best suggestions are to 1: upgrade light (more/better light inherently leads to more/better trichomes) - especially to a light that includes deep reds/far reds, infrareds (IR) and ultraviolet (UV). And 2: remove excess fan leaves. In my world, all his leaves are excess right now. I like to give my girls at least one full strip, often two, in a flower cycle. That allows more airflow, better Light penetration, and also induces some stress.
I cannot suggest enough that you go to @Caligurl ’s concentrates blog and follow her steps to making QWET - it turns your trim and sad larfy buds into a beautiful sticky trichome sludge that’s ripe for edible infusions. Plus the math is easy. 1 gram of sludge = approx 750mg. So you can dose up hubbys edibles without accidentally killing anyone (I may or may not have made some overly powerful gummies myself).
As katt williams said “you might have thought he was dead; he ain’t dead. He’s going to wake up in 30 minutes hungry enough to eat up everything in your house”
