So I know this is believed to be broscience about drilling the stem but I’ve drilled the stem a couple times and I really do believe I noticed a difference. Usually I drill a hole through the stem and leave a chopstick inside so the hole doesn’t close but this time my drill bit is pretty big so decided I will put some screws in the stem. I’m wondering if the screw being in the stem will cause a problem in any kind of way? Plant will be coming down in a few days but I’m just wondering if the screw will contaminate my bud or some craziness like that
heard of making holes to simulate bug damage and getting a response for the plant…I have put that in the bro science category and have never tried it.
@Riskguy well I drilled my first harvest and I definitely noticed a lot more frostiness from it but the thing now is I’m wondering if it’s going to be okay with those screws sitting in the stem for a couple days for a couple days
To each his own Grow Bro, but I consider this bro science. If this harvest was frostier than the last you would be need a side by side with a clone to run with and without the screws for an accurate comparison . It’s damage in my opinion and subjects the plant to unwanted stress during a critical bud building period
Honestly, how do you know it was more frosty from the screws, it’s really impossible to tell that, she may have been even more frosty left alone. It’s tough to experiment on one or two and say it does something specific, I’ve done small scale projects but would really need hundreds of plants over multiple grows to determine for sure. I’ve often wondered if any of these tricks are true hacks, I’ve had best luck giving them basic requirements, good environment and keep it simple.
Thought I was to
@OGIncognito yeah but does unwanted stress really matter in the last week of life?
For sure it is, I ruined some solid nugs down to whispy crap in the last couple of weeks
And when I drilled the hole on my last harvest the very next day I noticed a difference in trichome, I also was putting ice on it at the same time as drilling the hole so I don’t know but I definitely can say after I drilled the hole and put ice the very next day was like a snowball busted on the plant
Not at all but does one week do anything for the trichomes. Nothing wrong with experimenting my friend just don’t want newbies thinking this is a way to get frosty buds, this is more a geno/pheno thing
I am totally lost here, for something it takes the plant weeks to do how is it going to accomplish this in a couple of days by stressing it out.
If it works for you run with it
I would think the screws(if plain steel) will develope rust fairly quick. Not something id want leeching into my bud. Plated or stainless may present alternate issues but not sure.
@Metalheadfred I was thinking that too like I said I usually drill a hole and put a piece of wood inside the hole to stop it from closing
Everything matters in cannabis growing. Even a week, and you actually answered your own question.
See, you have the answer. If it’s unwanted, why then? Lol
And Doc is out on that one, later fellas.
Im just curious what is the hypothesis for making holes in the stem? Not knocking it or anything i just want to know the reason behind it.
Stress on the plant.. attemping to get the plant to throw out defenses such as increased trichome production @Bjenks540
Ive never seen tricome production go that fast, that I could notice a significant increase overnight other than whats normal. If this was really a thing everyone would be doing it. People have been growing weed for century’s. You have ask yourself how come this isn’t standard practice. I’ve heard this a couple of times over the years but nobody I know does it. Some have tried it just for shits and giggles including myself. Ive fallen for bro science a few times I even tried to convince myself that it worked. If it sounds too good to be true it usually is.
