I have a number of 5 and 15 gal pots that were used for 1 grow mostly FFOF some had a little perlite and worm castings added. In tbe past I have juat dumped these out but it sucks to spend $40/bag on new soil! Is there an easy way to save this for future use? Can I put it all in a 55gal drum with some worms and/or microbes? What else needs to be added? Can it be left in my shed (below freezing) during the winter months?
Reuse it. If no issues with it it is golden to redo. Remember it still has nutes in it. Some nice recharge and cook it a few weeks. Then use maybe 1/3 what you would normally feed to see what is left. Easier to put less and add than overdo and flush in my opinion. I always reuse my soil.
I wont be jumping right back into a grow. Probably done for 6-8 months so I am looking for the best way to store it- hipefully dueing that time some of the rogue roots and whatnot will break down into useable nutrients for the next go round
I have a big ol bin that has cooked 6 months at least. Not needed since i downsized. The soil is dark and silky. Worms in it are thriving. Will be used with the next auto run of 12 plants. It is dirt so wont fade away over time. Will just dry out if not tended and require a restart of the life.
I recharge my soil with coast of maine organic plant food stonington blend. Half a cup mixed into the soil and ready set go!
I have a pile in my backyard where I have been dumping used soil/coco. I did intend to add some Earth Dust, cover it, and let it cook to do an outside organic, but it’s been so hot, it would literally cook lol. So it just keeps getting used soil/coco dropped on it.
