Having trouble getting this one started. Got mix pack labor day. Rain water, dark, room temp. Hasn’t changed in 5 - 7 days. Seems like tail doesn’t want to lengthen. Don’t really want to bury it this short. Please advise. Thanks all!
Looks like a failure to launch.
Pot it. Forget it. Get surprised when it sprouts. I just had a failed ,I thought, Bean come up in a pot I tossed the dirt it was in into. 5 weeks. It went in same time as the rest.
Other then roll it up in a wet paper towel and place it between 2 plates and place it on a heat mat or an electric device that stays kinda warm like a router or gaming console if it’s running of course.
Or total just plant it and start another just in case .
It could be done for but untill it turns brown or grows mold it can still pull through, maybe…
You don’t need a long tail. Once they crack and you see them it’s time to be potted. The reason is that light will kill the root and sitting in water too long will deprive it of oxygen and take you to the same place.
When using water soak method it’s best practice not to soak them beyond 24 hours. This is plenty of time to soften the shell and sometimes crack but the root will soon need some oxygen. If using something like paper towel method the paper towel will protect tap from light and allow some oxygen, but leaving the taproot get long will provide opportunity for it to grow into the paper towel, potentially damaging it when you go remove.
I know there is a crowd that likes to see a good tap root going but once the seed has opened and a taproot is exposed the seed has germinated. Allowing it or trying to get it long just opens door for unnecessary issues.
Man that answer was friggin spot on. Patience is key. I get direct to soil beans taking weeks to pop. When they do they are always strong plants. I get more fails with long roots than not.
Thanks y’all! I’m still learning.
Great information, thanks.
