Hey Buddies
I know this is common topic and is debated.
We had our bud in jars and RH is 52 to 57
I googled and read multiple articles this morning that bud should be stored in jars around 40% to prevent mold and mildew.
Any how we dumped the jars back in the drying racks today.
Oversteer?
52 to 57 is fine Continue to burp the jars couple times a day.
Good luck finishing up
Not sure where you read this, but it is overkill and will lead to poor product.
I target 58 to 60% RH in my jars and when the cure is complete, I put a 58% Boveda pack in the jar to keep the RH at that level and vacuumate the jars for long-term storage. I’ve never had a problem with mold or mildew.
@1954dw, 58% to 62% is the desired range for storage. At 62% it will be a little more difficult to break up the buds before use, and may require a grinder in order to prepare the bud to smoke. The 62% will burn much slower, and will give a milder smoke. At 58% you will be able to break up the buds easier. But it will burn a little faster, and give you a harder hit when smoked. I prefer mine stored at closer to 58%. The taste is not much different at 58 or 62%. At 40% the buds will be very crumbly, and very hash tasting as well.
BTW cigars should be stored at 70%. When I used to smoke cigars I would forget to put water in the little foam humidifier, and this would result in a very poor taste and fast burn.
So nobody has trouble with mold or mildew at 50 to 57%?
We put so much work in the grow, it would be a big downer.
@DEEPDIVERDAVE, Dave sorry I couldn’t reply to your tag a few weeks back. I was in our camper, and for some reason the forum will not let me log in from my phone. I had to wait until back home and back on the iPad.
Is your harvest wrapped up yet? How did the UVA light finish up?
I had to delay this RV trip a couple days due to finishing drying my harvest. Luckily we had a campsite booked for 30 days, so cutting it down to 28 days wasn’t a big deal.
Somewhere on the forum about harvest size, I just posted, an up date…
Stand-by for a better reply.
I go into jars about 70% and burp it down to 62 over a week or 2 without any mold showing up. Just don’t pack the jars, leave some headspace and I will leave the jars open for an hour or 2 a day until I am close. Then at 62-65 I will just crack the jars for a few minutes until I have what It where I want it.
Thanks for the response. Not sure if anyone bumped the links I posted. Those sites say dry conditions to prevent unwanted conditions. Are one gallon jars as safe a quart mason jars?
I mostly use gallon and will put in quart jars when curing is done. My drying conditions here suck big time. Either 80% and hot or 20% and very cold. No in between.
You will be fine at 50 to 57%. These humidity packs are made to put in your jars or storage containers. They do a very good job of holding the humidity on point. They are available in 58% or 62% both.
I no longer use jars or the packs since switching to Grove Bags. I just let the buds dry until i can just start to break them by hand or reading 10 - 12% moisture with a moisture meter for wood. Then bag them up.
If you use jars you will need to burp the jars every day or two for the first two weeks after putting in the jars. This will allow you to keep a check on them for the first two weeks. After this everything will be stable enough for no worries.
Material being currently produced justifies all HLG, ILGM, AC-Infinity, and PSE expenses for growing. Material wants longer harvest as calendar hanging approaches.
I have to cut now, to get the hang complete, before the grove bags.
Contradictions to good growing: Disney, Summer heat, Cheap China Lights (poor spectrum vs. heat), and Conan, the Destroyer (me).
Positive take-away,
- Forum friend swapping introduced new growing technique, (sharing).
- Past year completed learning more than my brain wants to handle.
- Personally owned equipment good for MARS Launch, 6-2024.
Grove bags required because jars, cost too much.
The dozen, with vacuum lids, great but not for quantity,
Grove bags, 50-One ounce, cheaper than a dozen jars, with lids.
Positive take-away,
Three step/stage process.
Hang, Jar to RH, Bag/62%packet.
Overkill acceptable.
UVA-30, cant complain, and honestly cant quantify. Been cutting and culling for a month, so ladies and shapes diminishing.
HLG’s contribute to low heat generation and good measurable LUX.
Manufacturers and smarter people say this is good.
I got to wait for more cure and another grow to know.
HLG $ better than Disney $, for sure.
For those of you still using jars here is an easy and super fast way to burb the jars. Use a cheap air pump and just fish the tube into bottom of the jar. Then turn the pump on for about 60 seconds. You will be amazed at the smell that the fresh air pushes out of the jar.
Thanks for this unique technique shared.
I have seen large scale growers do this with 5gallon buckets. Check valves installed in the lids and hoses installed into the bottoms. Turn on the pumps with a timer and it is totally hands off.
Kind of like the manual interaction and control.
Tired of equipment malfunctions.

That makes total sense, there is no way a large scale grow could burp a bunch of jars daily.
Hands on for me also but I am not burping and curing 50lb at a crack either. 4 large grow warehouses within 1/4 mile of my day job.
