Replacement seeds showing promise (what next)

I received my replacement seeds after a few from my first batch were duds.

So far 2 of the 4 i did sprouted tails in the water. My next question is. Do i still leave them in the water glass for 24 hours or can they go into the wet paper towel next based on size?

Welcome to the forum @Africanplainstrain
Some go the paper towel route, others like myself simply plant them in the dirt and place them under the light. If you plant them with the tapered pointed end upwards then it will shed the husk almost every time. The root naturally curls back down towards the dimpled end and as the seedling emerges the dirt holds the husk back.
In my opinion the paper towel just adds the risk of damaging the taproot as it grows.
Make sure your soil is damp but not overly wet. You should be able to squeeze it tightly in your hand and it wont drip water. Place the seed about 1/4 inch down and give it a few drops of water to settle the soil around the seed. Should pop in 2 or 3 days.

As you can see the root naturally curls once it emerges so this method takes advantage of this natural growth.

I was all excited to share my new information but Spineynorman has assisted and sent the picture that @dbrn32

I always plant taproot up… 98% success rate

With the ones that are in the water cup that are already sprouting tap roots should i let them sit a little longer to allow them a slightly longer tail or should i plant them now?

I personally see tap root they go in to the soil in my case

I thought these were snails at first :rofl::rofl:

Once the germination process is started there is no need to leave them in water any longer. Plant them.
In fact after 24 hrs… I just plant them even if they have not cracked. But that’s just me. I figure if they have soaked 24 hrs. then the process has been started and they will sprout if they are viable. Cover the damp soil with a clear cup and don’t give in to the temptation to water again. Overwatering kills so many seeds…Oh so many seeds :sleepy:

So after this morning i put the remaining ones in a damp paper towel and put them in my closet. Glad i checked a little while ago because the suckers tap root had grown to almost 2 inches. Shes in a pot with freshly wet soil with a grow light over it.

And that’s why I just plant them after soaking. That root grows very fast. Glad to know its going well for you.

I go straight to rockwool since I do hydro, but when I start veggie seeds in condiment cups I use a coffee filter. Roots don’t grow into them nearly as bad as paper towels.

Update! 3 out of the 4 I have planted broke the surface. This was the first one.
