Recommend temp for 12/12

I started 12/12 this morning. What are the best temps?

What kind of lights are you using? LED, HID, CFL, etc…

Just put in my 400 watt hps bulb

With HPS lighting I would shoot for a canopy temp around 77 degrees, but a range of 72-82 should be about right :v:

Awesome  I’m at 76. Does it need to be that when she’s sleeping

Also the lights are 13in from the canopy is cool?

Typically a 10 degree change at lights out is recommended, but I know not everyone has optimal grow environments.

I would have them higher than that or else you can burn them pretty quick. You can get away running LEDs that close to the canopy in flower but with HPS you want them higher at around 24”. Maybe @dbrn32 will have additional info :v:

My low gets to 55. Is that too cool?

My lows get down there too. It isn’t optimal, but not the end of the world in my experience :v:

13” not unreasonable for 400 watt. You just want to keep a good balance of coverage and intensity. I think you can by with light temps dipping into 50’s, but you’re likely letting medium and root temp drop further than it should. When you consider fall weather on an outdoor grow plants see temps lower than that at nigh regularly and do just fine. But because the soil base is so much bigger, the root zone doesn’t see the temp fluctuations that the plant does. In turn, less opportunity for any root shock to take place.

Long story short, your lights on canopy temps seem great. If you can do a little better keeping lights out temp a little higher you’ll be in good shape. If you can’t, I don’t think plant will die but you’ll be opening door to disrupt uptake of water and nutrients a little.

I’m gonna get a small heater and put in the room. Thanks for the knowledge.

Or a propagation matt would work well. The soil temp is maintained and you can keep the room a bit cooler. The cooler temp help bring out the colors.

What is a propagation mat?

I have a couple propagation matts just in case but don’t use it. My plants seem to be doing fine with the lower lights off temp. During lights on I max out at 75 to 79 degrees. At lights off my lowest was 58 degrees.
