Random Small Questions

@mulch I got 3oz off these girls. Not sure if that’s good for a grow, but it aint bad to me sure saved me some cash.

yeah, they look great! what size pots?

@mulch They are 9" round and 9" in height. The guy at the nursery where I bought my run off trays gave them to me. Plastic. I have some 5 gallon pots, some 10 gal pot but my tent is 2x2x4 so not really gonna work too well with big pots.

i REALLY need to keep the sativas in check when i plant them so I am just assimilating information. How much smaller than the 5 gals are they, would you estimate? I am thinking of trying 3 gallon and maybe even 2 gallon if i ever attempt the nevilles haze seeds i have.

i realize yours are probably indica, but still. how tall did they get?

i feel pretty good about the health of my leaves. aside from a few leaves that bear scars from the great cal def on 2017 but are otherwise still kicking well, I am pretty happy with the health of the leaves

its just, its pretty dense foliage

its VERY 70’s

I am trying to avoid problems since they kinda surprised me by their vigor by thinking ahead.

Honestly these seeds were sent to me from family in northern California so I have no idea what they are. My nephew grows in NoCal and I’m trying to learn in SoCal. The pots as was explained to me from the nursery owner a plant they sell in a gallon pot is not the same as a gallon pot you buy to plant your plants. He says they’re totally different in size. 3 of my pots will fit in a 5 gallon pot. Best way I can explain it.

Your plants look great I think maybe you would’ve been ok to do a trim while they were in veg before you switched to flowering. Its a learning process.

they were not that big in veg. 12-14 inches tall, i think, for all of them

this was july 29th

plus they are autos, i thought i was to avoid that at all costs, plus, i thought i had stunted them

the time lapse really shows the explosion

Noy real sure about that you should ask some of the pros in here. I do kmow my plants maybe hit 30" in height which is why I had to do LST cause my light takes up a foot at the top of my tent easily and at 4’ in height that’s not much room.

i heard never use a pot bigger than 7 gallons for an auto, they wouldn’t use it

i also heard, big pots = big plants

i figure, 1st time grower, ill germinate 10 and be lucky if i can take 5 to harvest

i also invested in a bottle of root excelerator betting i could fill that pot with roots

that seems to be, apparently what has happened except i managed to germinate and grow all 10. i saw the roots hitting the side of the fabric pot like brush bristles on the 30th, right before they took off.

i kind of knew it was about to happen right then.

so what i thought was stunting and looked like a 2 week stunt in the time lapse, was likely them building a network of roots through that pot. and now i have a whole lot of plant matter that i thought wasnt going to play out this way

so i think that is how this happened, lol. i think i disproved a couple rumors with this grow about autos. i have 3 of 1 strain that would supposedly be seed to harvest in 55 days hasnt even started to flower yet at 41 days

my personal suspicion is that an autos clock isnt quite as fixed as has been mythicized

but that is another conversation for a different day, and 1 that i can only have after a successful harvest

also, i decided to take the 90+cm kush girl down to size.

It’s like, if ever there was a candidate for LST, it was her.

Taller than everything else in the canopy, yet totally pliable.

the auxin effect is happening right now because i did it!

Theres all kinds of opinions which is why I say its a learning process and sometimes you just have to do what you think is right for your grow. Sometimes things go better then planned and sometimes they don’t. Even the best growers run into issues you can try to be ready for the unexpected but sometimes its something you just didn’t think would happen. I have a plant right now that looks like the leaves were bleached. I had it in my tent with the light off for a few days while I was drying the plants I just harvested I sure didn’t think the top would die. I had to cut the top off and now my leaves appear bleached but I also have some nice new green leaves coming out so right now on this plant I have no idea what to do.

im having an issue that is vexing me as well. on top of that, i am showing signs of cal def even tho i am using full strength calmag and my ph appears fine… sigh

if it was easy, everyone would do it, right?

I cant complain I feel like the 3 grows I have done successfully to a extent that even though I made a lot of mistakes and had a few problem Ive learned and will continue to progress on this wonderful journey. My delivery guy hasn’t been here in maybe 4 or 5 months and the money I save Im using to get a better setup.

7 Gallon smart pot is a bit large for auto flowers but there’s really no negative effect on the plants themselves. You would be better off with 5 gallons if your tent was smaller. There’s no need to worry about your plants getting root bound in smart pots because your roots get air pruned. In fact I’ve heard of cases where people grow very huge monster plants in 5 gallon smart/fabric pots. My first grow was in 5 gallon smart pots but my next grow is going to be in 3 gallon smart pots because I’ll be transplanting my 10 clones and kicking them into flower. I’ll be using the Sea of Green method so my plants are going to be quite little when I send them into flower.

I must say this is really impressive for your first grow ever.:+1: I wish I had it this easy. If I may ask what line of nutes are you using?

gh trio with almost all additives

except i replaced the humic/fulvic with ful-potential.

Instead of rapid start, i use roots excelurator. I strongly suspect this had something to do with the success. it is expensive, but those who use it swear by it. I am now one of those people.

Photosynthesis plus, which I just switched to cannazym instead for flower. I think for as bad as Photosynthesis Plus smells, I really suspect this also played a part in the plant health. My reason for dropping it is that the ecosystem is likely established just fine right now, so switching to enzymes to keep everything clean would be a better plan. I suspect you could use them together, but in my understanding of what each does, PP for the beginning and Cannazyme from flower on seems the correct application of both

Drip clean to keep the runoff productive. And SM-90. I don’t know that it is the reason I haven’t seen any pests, but I havent seen any pests. ANd SM-90 smells so wonderful, it almost offsets the sulfur storm of the photosynthesis plus. And it is corriander based, so its not chemicals. Really good stuff, as far as I can tell.

Man! You went all out for a first time grower. Surely that’s the reason why your grow has so much vigor. You should try growing feminized seeds after a few more trials with auto. That’s were things get pretty interesting.

i will be doing photos, presumably next grow. i am thinking 4 durban poison, 2 gypsy haze, and 2 amnesia haze

in 3 gallon smart pots

i think i learned my lesson good, lol. I am concerned with having 8 big ones, but i think an 8x4 should be able to handle it, as long as i am diligent about watching their size

and the reason i went all out by the time i decided on my nutes and additives, there were only a few gaps in the full regimen. I decided to add ArmorSI so the stems would be stronger, and then i looked into what i was missing and words like aroma and weight were too tempting to pass up. plus, if my electric bill was going to be unaltered, what is a little more upfront investment to try to ensure prizewinning nugs, right? It added a ton of work, but if it finishes like it starts i will be mighty happy i did so

That’s the fun part of gardening. Watching your hard work pay off.
