Here is my question- My auto is in flower and likely has several weeks of it to go. During the day, when the lights are on, the humidity stays around 50%. I have fans, and an ac going all the time. My ac is a window unit, and I live in the very humid FL, and it rains every day. There is also a lot more rain coming, so more humidity to deal with. Because my girl is in flower, I worry about mold even though they are not all thick and heavy yet. So, how bad will it be for her if I leave the lights on 24hrs per day? Would leaving low lighting that allows the humidity to reach say, 60% at night, be better, or worse for her? I don’t want her to get rot, and the only way to keep the humidity down right now is full lighting. I am looking for a low cost dehumidifier, but so far I have not found anything my funds can cover.
You’re saying as high as it gets is 60%? I wouldn’t worry too much about mold being in the 50-60% range. As far as the lighting goes, you should get them some sort of dark period. Even though 24 hours light is not necessarily detrimental to an auto. It seems like most have the best luck running 18/6 or 20/4. But you should probably wait for the guys that grow them more opinion.
I run 18/6. I heard you can run it for 24hrs for autos if you want to. Maybe just do it until you get through all of the humidity. I heard a hurricane is heading you’re way though I read the more light the better the yield. Mine is used to getting darkness so it gets droopy right before lights out. I’m sure you could get away with it for a few days or so then switch back. Don’t know what you are running currently though.
@dbrn32, If I put all lights off for even 6 hours, when I turn back on the humidity will be anywhere between 72 and 80%. I am thinking if I leave only one light, the smaller overtop one, I can keep it about 60% but I am not sure…and I think that as long as there is light it is the same…I don’t know.
@Noctis420, I have two overhead LED full spectrum. 1000watt(about 300-350 true) and a 250watt. I have one side light that I use intermittently. I was trying to give them a 14 on, 10 off schedule, but have been slowly moving the on time up because of the humidity thing. I have two fans, an air purifier, and a very small humidifier that takes about a cup of water out of the air every two days and the ac unit running all the time to keep the temp at 77%. I also have charcoal cans around to help.
What are you running for ventilation?
@dbrn32, well I don’t have anything designated as ventilation because she is not in a closed tight environment. The back wall of her hub sits against the wall with the ac so that the ac is inside the hub. The right and left side are reflective blanket sheets but air can escape in or out. The front is also a reflective sheet, but I let that be half open as it does not effect the temp/humidity one way or the other to have it closed, and that way coolness enters the room to keep Potty Mouth(my WWA) comfortable. I don’t have to worry too much about smell, so my plants have a room to themselves
I have that same mini humidifier it stinks! Lol I gave in and bought one that is 30 pints around $130
Is it really hot in there? A heater could help kill humidity, just a thought. I deal with a high humidity climate and I feel that struggle haha. I would maybe shut off one light like you said that sounds like it would help. It will help give them some relief. I have a pineapple express auto in week 6 of flower and fighting off humidity. I’ve read plants can survive in 85 degree weather. 80% will most likely cause mold. @Tr33
I am hoping to find a second hand 30 pint device. I have turned on the portable heater before to see what it does, and I can break down the humidity with it, but in short burst as the temp will soar. Thanks for your input. I think I’d rather them be a little warm, than get mold…
Nice pic!!
You’re probably going to need to pull the air through and remove it, rather than just planning on it naturally removing itself. Is that a swamp cooler style ac? That could be driving up your humidity too, hard to tell from pic.
@dbrn32, you can’t see the ac in the picture, it is a window ac
Gotcha, then it’s not what I was thinking was there.
Good point about raising heat to ward off hi humidity
