Hello there. I have a question about hydroponics. I usually grow my plants organically, but I’m trying out deep water culture (DWC) during the colder months.
My tap water has a PPM of 150, and my nutrient feed schedule recommends 250-300 PPM for early growth. Should I add the recommended PPM to my water’s current PPM (for a total of 400-450 PPM), or should I subtract the PPM in my tap water from the recommended PPM (250-300 minus 150)?
I would greatly appreciate your help in understanding this. Thank you for your time and consideration. It’s the only variable I’m having an issue finding a definitive answer to.
Disregard your water source Growmie, it’s not bad at all or enough to consider. I would only feed the 250-300 during the seedling stage then bump that up to 600, 2 weeks later up to 800 and run 800-1000 to harvest
How much would you feed for clones? I’ gonna start my rdwc this weekend and don’t want to kill the little things. @Retiredoldguy@OGIncognito This is my first time using clones.
I am not a Jacks user so won’t have any good advice about using it… I use the General Hydroponics line…but if you have questions we can get answers as there are hydro growers in this forum that do use it…
Thank you so much! i’ve got everything setup. Im using the mars hydro DWC bucket system that I got off a co worker of mine. just waiting on these autos that I harvested to finish up drying in said tent before I proceed.
I do have a question now that I think of it. as mentioned earlier, my tap water is considered barely “hard” @ 150-160ppm, with that being said, should I even bother using CalMag? the nutrient lineup I plan on using is Humboldts Secret Starter Kit Pack. which basically comes with their base A + B, Silica, Enzymes, P-K Booster, CalMag+Iron. i’ve been trying to look up what exactly is inside our local water supply. the only thing I could find is this from a 2023 drinking water analysis.
my understanding is Calmag is really only needed for RO and distilled water applications…so I don’t think you need to add any to your nutrient line up…
Hey Dupri to Nutley in but I’m new to all of this and I’m having trouble with my ph is high i have no nutes because i just changed the pot to a five gallon with fox farm soil but everything isn’t going like i want a friend said it’s too high i got the thing to put in the soil to read it and it’s at like 9 and I’ve tried ph down for the last three weeks at 5.5 and it’s still high please help anyone
If that meter you’re using is a soil moisture PH probe, they’re not accurate with PH reading. If you don’t have run off to test the PH and PPMs you can do a soil slurry test. It’s more accurate and will let you know the Soil PH and PPMs
