I failed to mention in the last post that the cakes were extremely dry and shriveled up. They will be soaking for the next 72 hours to rehydrate them for the 4th flush.
I get them. This is all my very first attempt. At any of this. So I thought the bags would be a learning curve and take it out to put into a tub. I did this bc to lower my risk of contamination. Still have more fruiting surface area.
Cakes are back in fruiting conditions for a 4th flush after soaking for 72 hours. I’ve rarely made it to a 3rd flush, let alone a 4th. I’m absolutely convinced that putting peroxide in the tent humidifier helps. The cake looks nasty, but is still healthy. The yellow staining isn’t contamination. It is staining from a mycelium metabolite that is harmless.
Absolutely. Great flushes, mate.
First timer with Golden Teachers! Just pulled my first ones today, plan on pulling and immediately dehydrating as the veils break!
@MidwestGuy
In a tub like mine (above post), I cant really dunk my cake after im done harvesting, how would you suggest I dunk for a 2nd flush?
I’ve yet to be able to do this but I seen people just put it in a stainless bowl and just put another on top to hold it down. May I ask you was your cake an all in one grow bag and the just cut it out of the bag and placed it in your tub?
@Milkman Yes exactly, had an all in one grow bag with rubber bands around the side, but I was still getting side pins so I transferred to a tub!
The best way I have found is to get a marinade injector for cooking and inject water into the substrate I’m sure it still bruises but it seems way better imo
I have 3 all in one bags. Just threw one out. How long after your break and shake till you decided to fruit. Or did you cut the top in two small places and wait for the pins to start. I guess I’m having trouble with mine to fruit. I don’t want to mess the other two bags up. They are still sealed and did the break and shake already. If you scroll up a few post you can see the two bags that are sitting in the dark.
I can’t emphasize strongly enough that a grain bag must be 100% colonized before attempting to fruit it.
I put a small boiling pan with a bit of water in them for weight over my cakes to sink them when they are soaking as well. It keeps them dunked for great rehydration.
@Milkman
I used Mushroom Supplies new Plus Dung loving bag with spores. In their new bag you do not cut the bag or anything, after you break and shake, they claim that they will just start fruiting all on their own when their ready, and surprisingly enough thats exactly what happened! And it took 14 days to see the first pin after break and shake.
Truffles are a lot of fun to watch and just as fun to eat, super mild and clear headed but definitely magical
@MidwestGuy Thanks for the tip! I just dont know what I would dunk it in… The only thing I have that would fit the cake is a 5Gal bucket
@doober That sounds like a pretty solid idea, probably more sterile than trying to dunk it in a 5Gal bucket!
How much water do you usually inject?
Usually a few hundred ml or so, you can really tell when it’s re hydrated and you will also feel it when you push the syringe in the sub just how wet and dry it is. I always just injected in each corner twice and the middle a few times, if you are using a liner it also allows the sub to wick it up from the bottom without inviting as much bacteria imo, so it’s really hard to mess up with that technique I feel,
@doober I just may try that out, ill be sure to tag you in the results if I do!
Also, another question for anybody that may know. Do you have to rehydrate after you have picked all the mushrooms on your cake?Or will more mushrooms eventually grow without rehydrating?
