Which fan leaves do you leave on when pruning? At what point does it become detrimental to the buds? I’ve seen some pics of plant with huge colas and it’s literally just all buds hardly any fan leaves, and then as I research I’m reading that you need fan leaves to make buds too. So I’m confused how much to strip off?
Trim as necessary to maintain good airflow through the plant’s canopy. The plant otherwise needs its leaves to manufacture the sugars the plant needs to grow and be healthy.
Well right but i don’t know how much is too much or too little since im a new grower. It seems so subjective
I think it depends on where your at in the grow. In flowering I remove all the popcorn buds and foliage or lower limbs. During the grow I remove all the big fan leaves that are blocking flower sites. But I’m only on my forth grow so I’m not out of the rookie stage I don’t think. Also this picture I’m including shows very few leaves. But this was a couple hours before harvest and I removed most everything. Good luck with your grow. You should give us a picture so there is a visual tool for the great growers to chime in about.
Nutshell
Fan blades are the solar panels. They provide all the energy she needs. Selective removal is subjective. When removing fans, I only take ones during veg that are clogging up the middle or are so low that they do not get much light. I leave as many on as possible during veg. A rule of thumb for defol when going in to flower is 21/42. 21 days after you flip and then again at 42 days. This is when you see the mains you mentioned with not alot of fan blades. Another rule of thumb is to take the lower 1/3 or lollipopping. Removal of low bud sites that will not amount to much anyway will increase yield at the mains.
After the 42 day defol, I only take fans that are inhibiting airflow or just not doing their job due to location on the plant. This is a learning process and once you have it figured out it is a no brainer.
Here are some pics of befores and afters to maybe help a bit.
Here is a good lollipop pic. On this grow I was training for missiles.
and the final
That was GFOG from here.
Hope these help…
I’ve heard a good rule of thumb is to never take off more than ten-twenty percent at a time and then give them a few days to recover.
I did not mention that this is the same plant. 1st pic is at 10 weeks right before I flipped her and the last pic is a week before harvest.
Guys! I really need someone’s guidance and someone who is experience, more than me lol and just with help from the other person in here. I mean don’t get me wrong I have witnessed many plants that were grown here and removed in hopes of having more of an income but (NO!) think he was just ready
Not sure what you are saying here, but if you need help, ask the question and maybe the forum can answer.
