Project "bananas"

My name is Tom, I am homesteader, gold miner and enthusiastic gardener…I like outdoor projects and I always go way over my head with them.
So I call my cannabis cultivation start project “bananas”
Will be researching the best seed bank and the best strain for our location…
4,800-5,000 feet elevation, southern east to southern exposure, partially forested localities, cold nights- warm days, last freeze mid April, first freeze mid October, look cal spring water with manganese oxide , local soil - heavy clay…

Will be doing organic grow with composted rabbit and chicken manure soil amendments, also some peat moss to reduce alcalinity…

So here it is, my plan, Hello everybody !!!

There is one more thing I forgot in introduction…
I would like to ask some experienced outdoor growers in this community to recommend strain based on info about the location I provided from ILGM menu, I will order it, try it out and of course share my journey with anyone interested…
Thank you

a couple questions about the plants for outdoor growing.

What are your expectations for yield?

What type of bud do you like? (smell etc)

Are you looking for photo plants that will veg until the light lowers? Or autos that will go into flower automatically?

ILGM has plants for outdoors that run the gamut, but most of them will grow darn near anywhere!

With your first freeze running around mid October, I would suggest a strain that finishes late September to early October.

I think an indica dominant strain would be better suited for the cooler temps. I’m not sure how much elevation will play a role other than the lower temps you get.

If you want a later finishing stain, I would look into getting a small greenhouse. You could build one cheaply using PVC for the frame and plastic sheeting for the walls and roof. Make sure to leave access to fresh airflow.

I love growing in the Sun. If I can help, please feel free to tag me…

I got to think about this over night.
I think most of ILGM strains would do well here if I put them out after the frost passes, but then sometimes even in September the nights can be very close to freeze, so let’s focus on Autoflower.

I got 20 White widows auto from ILGM.

But here is the thing.
I don’t use cannabis so no experience at all.

I suffer for years pretty severe low back pain ( old rock climbing accident injury), I would like to grow one strain for me as a medicine instead of taking painkillers…

I don’t want to be stoned, need to be fully functional for homesteading chores…
But a little buzz be fine.

Ilgm says amnesia haze or blueberry , which one would you recommend…
Or should I try both ?
We talking about autos…

Thanks

If you need to do work during the day I’d go with the amnesia haze. I would let others chime in though before you decide.

I got gold leaf from ILGM because it is Bergmans strain so I see how it grows here…

You have pointed the issues exactly on point Floridason …
Right now its a little chaos in my thoughts and ideas, but that’s always how it goes with my projects at the beginning…

I am in process of finishing small 10x10 greenhouse for my babies…its still snowing here…

I would like to offer advice since you are wanting to use this for pain.

I understand needing to be active during the day, but you will also want something to send you to bed. You can get this by harvesting at different stages of maturity, but I would look at getting an indica dominant strain too.

Not being accustomed to marijuana, many of the different strains will help with the pain, but you’re going to want one to wake you up and one to put you down. Having two types will allow you to treat for pain all day.

I like a variety to combat strain tolerance…

A very good thought…
Would white widow or gold leaf or northern lights or blueberry put me to sleep ?
That’s what I an currently germinating, also local strain called Oregon OG, which is not Autoflower but finishes very early, being crossed with Iranian landrace…
Yeah I know chaos right now…lol

This is my first season with Blueberry. I went with an auto, so it will be a few more months before I can answer about the effects.

@Usmcjojo recently said something about his harvest, so I’ll let him give you a review of White Widow. Many grow it here and tend to report their opinions at the end of the journal.

The more time you spend looking through topics and talking with others, the easier everything involving marijuana will get including which strains are better suited for what you like.

For treating pain, you can search out high CBD strains at this forum’s seed bank High CBD Seeds For Sale | Highest CBD Marijuana Seeds . I really like the Cheese! I’ve had it, but never grown it. I’ll be ordering some the next time!!!:imp:

You’ve found a great community and I know you’ll learn a lot…
