I’ve finally stopped slacking and started my second indoor grow after watching all the beautiful buds being grown around here. I’m switching up a few things from my first indoor grow journal thanks to receiving and reading some excellent guidance from the grow gurus here. Major changes:
I moved on to using Recipe 420 soil from Ocean Forest my last few grows but the last ones i use a significant percentage of my home compost which worked well. This go around it’s recycled plus an even higher percentage of the home compost. I’m using a lower wattage but better variable spectrum led this go around. Hopefully I’ll gain some efficiency but keep the yield the same or better with improved quality. I owe some tags from my last journal but I’ll get them out as soon as the seed sprouts as my strain might change if she misbehaves

She look sweet! I helped my son on this Grimm Brothers Haze 99 lady grown outdoors, just Recipe 420 soil plus my home compost with no other inputs other than water:
Happy Thanksgiving all! Hopefully it’s a joyous one with family and friends. Well, sleepy head poked her head out yesterday so the strain for Part II is
@madhatter1@SausageMahoney@Dennis62 and anyone else I missed who encouraged during my first journal feel free to follow along and see where this goes. 4 days from a seed in the ground so let’s see how happy I can keep her!
Just a quick check in w/ current conditions. She’s plugging along and I’m just carefully doing some focused light watering as this is a seedling in her one and final grow container. I know over watering and over application of nutes are killers at this stage but I personally don’t feel seedlings are all that delicate light-wise and I’m at 440 PPFD even at this early seedling stage. The center of the pot has a plug of regular organic soil (Kellogg) to avoid excessive intake of nutes and I carefully meter out a small amount of pH’d water. Doing it that way running higher than typical light levels at this stage have worked well so far for me. Happy growing all!
If I may make a suggestion: when they are this small, you can put a Solo cup upside down over the seedling and then water all around the upside-down cup. That way the stem stays dry, less chance of drowning the seedling and they make stronger roots since they have to reach the water.
Hey @kaptain3d you most certainly can make a suggestion and it’s appreciated! I dribble water at this stage focusing the water in a ring an inch or so away and barely dampen the area near the stem. What you’re suggesting makes total sense to me. Is water near the stem (tiny amount) a problem? If there’s any possiblity i’ll be incorporating your suggestion.
Thanks!
P.S. At minimum I’ll be quadlining but may do even more extensive training/torturing so your plant torturing expertise will be much appreciated down the line
There’s a slight risk of the stem “damping” off. Meaning: if the stems stays wet for too long, it may rot and kill the seedling. A small amount of water that dries quickly shouldn’t be a problem.
