Pressing Rosin first run

So I made my first run of diy rosin. Come out with about 10% return. My question is can I use the pressed chips for qwet? Surely there’s something good left in the pressed buds that only gave 10% returns? @Covertgrower I know you do alot of extraction

You could possibly, I know @Bogleg presses, not sure what he does with the pressed pucks. Qwet sounds like a good idea to me. Might be difficult to extract the middle of the flower being compacted.

Return numbers varies on the strain, mostly on the amount of trichomes on the flower.

Also the press I think…which in my case was a hair straightener in a vice

Honestly we make potent butter with our chips . Once we hit a pound of chips we make a batch . Sometimes we add regular bud and but most times we meet our quota . Very. Very potent shit and we usually get back 13%-18%

Budder is now on the list of options too thanks Bman

How much butter do you use with a pound of chips?

Ib butter per lb of chips . That might be excessive but in between three ppl smashing at least 2-4 oz a week it adds up quick .

I have seen so many different ratios for butter or coconut oil, i personally do a ounce Per 3/4 of a cup butter or oil . So I’m sure ppl have different ratios for the chips

10% on a hair straightener?? How hard were you pressing that’s nuts . I never got more then a couple of drops doing it that way

I put it in a bench vice and squeezed till the plastic was about to crack. I ran 3.2 grams of flower and collected 0.3g of rosin. 3 separate presses each nug being 1g and 1nug 1.2g

That’s not bad for the method . Was it bud you grown or street stuff/dispensary? I smashed 30g of my first harvest and only got 8% back . That’s horrible but it let me know I definitely harvested way early . I would like to check in smaller amounts to help determine when to harvest

That’s a good idea to check that way. I didn’t grow it personally but it is from a homegrower out on the west coast

I’m not sure if you can press fresh bud or if it at least It would have to be dried . I believe no matter what there has to a chemical break down so I’m guessing at least a 5 day dry

From what I’ve read it does need to be dry for best results

Best to have it around 60% humidity. Too dry and yields suffer. Too wet and you get oily, nasty results. Best stuff is taking fresh frozen, making bubble hash, and pressing the lower quality results. For flower, pressing immediately after drying to 60% produces the best results for me.

And the pressed pucks do you discard those or repurpose?

Depends on what was in the bag.

Think of it like this. If you are pressing flower through a 120μm bag everything that’s left in the bag is bigger than 120μm. A lot of people press it a second time, and then use the second pressings for edibles, etc. I personally like to wash the bags - with the material in them - in ethanol for QWET.

When I press hash, the stuff left inside might end up being valuable - I am not entirely sure. But If you took hash you extracted through a 90μm bag and pressed it in a 25μm bag, you’d still have all the stuff between 90 and 25μm inside the bag… I would think that’d still be okay hash. With that theory in mind, I have smoked some of that stuff and it’s efficacy is solid.
