My seedling seems like it’s growing very slowly. I have a total of 4 serrated leaves at 2 weeks. I watered it 4 days ago and the top of the soil is still a little wet. The soil is Indicanja which is very loose. Is it a drainage issue? If so, what’s the best way to remedy it?
Overwatering will certainly slow the growth of a seedling. Water should be measured in ml at this point.
Should I drill some holes in the side of the pot or just leave it alone and let it dry up?
Do you have pictures
Are there any holes in the pot at all?? If not, make some, bottom and sides about an inch up.
The pot said that drainage is built in and drains into the attached dish.
Sorry, didnt see the bottom.
Seedling looks fine , After the seedling Develops
A root system you will start seeing more foliage.
Youre fine. Id suggest when watering them to place a solo cup or something similar upside down over the top of the plant. And then watering directly around the rim of the cup. This will protect your plant from splashing of nutrients as well as create a water ring around your plant naturally. This causes the roots to expand faster as they seek out the water. Thus creating a healthier and faster growing plant.
Itll seem like slow going the first few weeks and then theyll explode. Right now the magic is happening under the soil also id drop your light a touch to help with stretching.
Thanks. The light is about an inch away from the plant.
Should I wait until the leaves are drooping before I water again?
I would remove the attached drainage dish so the plant doesnt wick up the runoff.
Might fill up your pot to the base of the true leaves to add some stability. Look a little leggy to me maybe. If that’s the case, she might be reaching for the light. What’s your DLI set at?
Other than that she looks great! And like someone said above she’s establishing her roots below. Week 3 or even four she’ll explode up top. Just sit back and watch.
The shadow on the soil looks like it’s one of those flexible arm type of “grow lights”. Those lights are waaay too weak for cannabis. You need at least 35-40 watts per sq ft. and figure 3-4 sq ft per plant.
A good 100 watt full spectrum light will grow 1 plant but not very well.
Welcome! Make sure the soil can breathe. Add a few holes on the bottom and sides. It should work. Good luck!
While drooping is a tell tale sign it needs water, id just give them about a cup or so every 2 to 3 days until she starts packing on some size. Picking up the pot and going off weight is the easiest way to determine when to water. They prefer wet to dry but not bone dry. Also the root base is normaly the same size as your canopy edge. So as you see your leaves reaching out that gives you an idea of where to water as theyre filling the pot out. So basically your canopy edge is your suggested water ring size until they hit veg.
As stretchy as the plant is…thats not good. Get more light over her @Lightyear . Also why she’s growing so slow.
Are you using the s11 or s16 ionbeams as lighting?
