Please help my plant stems started drooping on some plants and im almost positive its from the heat here. Is it ok to just keep them in the shade? Is that not enough light? I was going to keep them under a gazebo or should i keep them in the sun? Its like 90 degrees. Strong sun.
They can use some shade. Some put under a lean to. I am not outsie grower but other will chime in.
I put them under gazebo they are outta direct sun anc already seeing my problem fixed
I would remove the plastic so they’ll get a breeze
Plastic could be raising the temp around the plants.
They will bounce back, no worries. When the weather is this hot I’ll water my girls who are in fabric pots, in the early morning everyday and soak them really good.
On plants in the ground I will also water in the early morning, a good soaking, also I water far from the stem so the roots can go find the extra water if they need it.
Getem some shade i say. 110 here right now. Killing everything.
@Storm @OGIncognito @Derf02368 thanks for answering! Yeah i placed them in there for a sec while moving them the plastics for when the suns not too strong it helps heat keep it nice and warm and i hope it magnifying sun rays. I placed it under a gazebo outta direct sun and they perked right up! Is it ok to keep your plants outta direct sunlight like that? I would drench them with water again but just fed them neuts 2 days ago and still damp im assuming i dont want to over water.
It is ok. Just gonna be a couple days.
I’ve been in 95+ all summer. On our 3rd week of 100+ (not in a row). They’ll be alright. Maybe let the plastic off for some air movement. Maybe move them under a tree. Just be sure you spray them, though, as precaution, if you do move them under or next to other plants.
Airflow and correct watering during very high temps is critical. The plastic may be causing the air to become somewhat stagnant, creating more of a problem. Setting them in alittle shade may be a better choice in your situation.
To much or to little of water will cause the plant to stress. This mixed with the stress from the high temps can lead to more trouble then is needed. Really watch the soil a few inches down.
Go get alittle soil from a tree next to your house. Toss a few cops on the top of each pot and water it in. Over time the little microbes and life will leach into the lower soil. Adding nutrients and be beneficial live into highway and freeways underground —> the root systems. Letting the plants adapt to the surrounding environment.
Happy farming…
NICE!!! As an indoor guy never even crossed my mind. Thanks.
I pull a sun shade over the enclosure but only if it goes over 100 F. They just need lots of water
@HippieRunner1 thats smart afff my friend does that when he makes liquid fertilizer out of fish! He said to take some dirt from the base of the biggest tree near you and put it in with the fish and water for the Local microbes. I bet it really does help with a bunch of problems i would have because of my environment.
They look hungry
I only feed with teas once a week or so. One thing I add to the brew is about four cups or so of fresh soil (humus) from our general area. That nice black gold. Helps the plants adapt to the environment.
The temps here have been in the mid to upper 90s for the past few weeks. Maybe triple digits next week. As long as the roots are happy and the plants are acclimated you should be good.
Give them some ice water to cool them down…
Put them under some shade. Also maybe toss some straw on top of the soil. This will help slow down the evaporation of the water in the soil. You want those roots to stay cooler.
Today rn atleast its only 84 and they look like they are doing good for now! But ill totally grab some hay from a friend and i have a nice tree in my yard i can probs get some good soil from! Ill do that next time i water and add ice to the water! but i have been using fox farms neuts rn and they seem do be doing good for my plants mostly i think. I have a flush coming up next water for most plants though.
Is it ok to top your plants in the sun? Or should i wait for night time? I did it yesterday-on one of my plants but it was in the shade.
