This is my 2nd grow. My first grow, the plants never got close to this height. This is 5 weeks in for the plant on the left, and I am still 2.5 weeks from flowering stage. I am getting nervous that the plant is going to grow too close to the light, and i cant put them any higher than where they are at now. Is there anything I can do now to prevent the plant from getting to close to the light? Are there any techniques I can use now before its too late?
You can still do LST during flower - you just have to do it gently in stages. I do it all the time.
Take a long piece of string and tie it loosely near the end of the node. Pull it down just slightly and secure the other end of the string to your pot or to a weight on the floor. I use a small paint can.
On the next day, pull the node downward just a little. Keep repeating until you get to the height you want.
I just took a couple of simulated photos to give you an idea:
The nodes that get turned horizontal always wind up with massive colas that are dogleg shaped, as the very end continues to try to grow upward for a few days. I don’t have any photos of that, so I just made you a crude drawing.
Oh - I just re-read the original post and saw you’re not even in the flowering stage yet. Still, you can use the string method I showed above to bring your height down.
I’m the crazy one. I’d bend her over and zip tie her till she gains some weight. Once she has enough, you can release her and she should mainly grow horizontal. Paracord also works perfectly.
