Currently have a 6’+ plant that I’d like to trim down quite a bit. Still have a couple weeks before she goes into pre flower and then who knows how much she will grow. It’s already been topped multiple times and she still wanted to grow up more than our. What’s the maximum that I can’t take off her? Seriously would like 2-3’ taken off but I’m not sure what effect that will have.
Rule of thumb for any plant is no more than 1/3rd. If you are in the heat like many of us I might only take 10% and then wait week to do the next.
That’s a good problem to have. Most of us are trying to get them big…Lol
Cutting tops will make it more bushy too. Just fyi
Thanks for the reply. Today is our areas last day of the heat wave, but it wasn’t that bad here. Highs were around 90 so not horrible. Wish I could do a small trim and let here go but It just becomes unmanageable for me at anything above 6’. Plus I worry about branches breaking during flower. Oh and it’s supposed to be a somewhat stealthy grow
Any chance you could put some stakes in the ground and simply tie off tall branches? Kind of an outdoor LST.
Don’t Cut the Top Cola Bud , That’s like the heart of a melon, you can bend it so it’s not so tall
Tie it off if like @Myfriendis410 mentioned. You state been topped several times . Use them auxins
Same problem here. If 6’ becomes 12+’ in the flowering stretch, it needs to start growing sideways. Started this one 2days ago and it looks much better now.
Used duct tape and copper wire support. I’ll use the wood support post and tie it down along the fence behind.
I’m up to 90"(7.5’), I’m just going to let them do what they do, they know better than I.
Dave they look as though they should be placed in your front walkway as main entrance hedges, better tell your landscaper not to trim those into some ornamental hedge very full and healthy looking.
Hmm I know huh? seems like a good thing…But like @Side3ffects I had a Photo I decided to grow and it was getting too big for what ,in my mind was to be a stealthy suburban grow…I live in a legal state but I didn’t want the unwanted attention of my Romulan Photo would bring if the neighbors were to see it protruding over the fence. Ive been growing Autos for the last 3 seasons, and I decided to try that Photo…It got to around 7 feet tall. about a foot taller then I wanted/expected. I definitely didn’t want to cut into the main cola(as it was already in flower stage) I should have lst or just bent it over but it was already leaning because of the weigh and the 45 gallon fabric pot wasnt cutting it…Yeah I know what to do if I ever do a photo again…but I can relate @Side3ffects @dirtydave NICE!!! thats a monster!
@Side3ffects i have the same problem because of the placement of the plants i dont want them to get too tall so i drill 1/4" diameter hokes in the top of my pots and used hemp string to pull the tops down …tops because i topped her a few times as well . This 1 is my purple haze and i didnt get a chance to top her because she was in shock due to relocation . U can kind of tell how i have the top pulled down ,i did it little at a time each few days i would pull her down a little more . I will post mkre pictures when i get off to show the others
