Outdoor grow. What potting soil to use

@AAA I used it throughout the entire grow until about the last week of flower but you can use it until harvest

I’m going to try the liquid method. Seems like I can get more comprehensive coverage.

Also was just reading Total Living Organics and the REV says BT kills the fungus knat larvae.

I am a promix grower in past grow. Amending my promix this year with bits and pieces of knowledge from this forum. @garrigan62 has some great stuff out here. As a result, i expect to at least double my yield an go mostly nut free. Not just soil, but good recipes for teas and root drenches. You should check it out. Good luck. It will be fun watching.:sunglasses:

Ive never really had a problem with pest growing outside. I’ve had the occasion leaf mncher but keep a eye on them. Long as they just get a taste and move on I don’t bother with them. They have never done any harm. I wish I got the same respect for my tomatoess ….lol .

I’ve had catapullars eat the main cola on my prized Durban plant from the inside out. Crazy thing is you don’t really notice until it’s too late.

I’m using BT this year.

I am not sure how to start/create a topic, can you help me with this?
Until then will just hop in.
Live in Florida and am wondering the type of soil also.
Am beginner and have had older seeds gotten from “product” over the years. Have used plain top soil that I mixed in sand with draining red rocks on the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket that had lots of holes. Used tomato plant food.Had great success. However, since spent so much on these seeds am wondering the best I can do for them.

@SoFlo, if you search supersoil by a member @garrigan62 you will find his recipe.

If not you can use fox farms soils.

I like happy frog for young plants and ocean forest for more established. I would add an additional 10-30% perlite to both depending on how often you can water. Also putting rocks at the bottom of the container is a good practice. I have been putting these large rock size perlite chunks in the bottom of mine.

This is my first year using fabric pots and so far I like them. Everything else I’ve read says better aeration and root structure. I buy tan color so they don’t bake in the sun like the plastic pots.

There are plenty of people on here with more experience than me, I’m sure that will chime in.

Good luck!

NICE Looks like you have been reading Mel’s Square Foot Gardening.

Correct! But the squash plants are killing the square foot parameters.

Decided to apply it to weed.

Do you grow veggies?

Yes among other things. Trying Mel’s idea this year.

Cool. Our boxes have way over shot our expectations.

Hey @ricrocs Welcome to the very best forum. Read, ask any questions. Create topics. Great place to learn. Outstanding moderators. No BS. ENJOY.:sunglasses::shamrock:

Your biggest expense will be your lighting. Your final product will show that, airy buds, weak lighting, even your best blurples will give you airy buds, spend big money on LED strips like HLG has to offer of build your own to get your lumens/par up there to get quality tight nugs, and that is not cheap to do, you will spend 300-400 dollars per light on lighting which is way more than what you will spend on soil. Happy Growing and good luck.

Thanks.

I live in SoCal and for my first grow, I used Miracle-Gro potting soil. It worked great! I used it in outdoor pots. This year, I started with an organic potting soul, and I’m not really happy with it. I’m having nitrogen problems that I didn’t get with Miracle-Gro. I’m getting ready to germinate a few more seeds and switching back to plain old Miracle-Gro.

Some people have luck with MG, some don’t. Use what makes your girls happy.

@MAF, welcome. Im in so cal and use a supercoil mix which is posted on here. Nio issues, my plants are booming.

The great thing about growing is we all have different tricks and styles, in the end if your plants are healthy and the bud is good, you killed it.

Good luck with your grow. Ill tag you in on my grow journal.

Welcome @MAF I also use super soil per recipe @garrigan62 , readily available here. He is the soil master. Also growing two in ProMix HP mix. Not super soil, amending with store bought nutrients. Whatever gives you success. Good luck, great grow.:v::wink::sunglasses:
