So I am walking through Walmart and ran across this organic orchid bloom booster and was wondering if it would make sense for me to put this to use. I am using fox farm grow big and tiger bloom, is there a way to add this in the equation and would it even be worth it?
These are sufficient and adding additional products may harm rather than help. Bloom boosters aren’t worth the risk.
I would add Big Bloom if using FF nutes. Big Bloom contains the micronutrients (copper, iron, boron, manganese,…) your plant needs.
Suggest switching to Jacks 321 the next grow. FF nutes are known for causing pH problems (requiring a couple of flushes to address the pH problem) by the time you get to flowering.
The orchid bloom booster won’t make much difference to the plant. It has very low levels (1%) of nitrogen (N) and potassium (K) and 3% phosphorus (P).
Plants need potassium for flowers and fruits. Nitrogen for leaves and stems. Phosphorus for roots. They do other things for the plants too but that is the 3 main ingredients in fertilizers and their primary role.
If you want a fertilizer for flowering you get something that has a high potassium number 15-30 rather than 1%.
Potassium fertilizer should be added or increased at least 2 (preferably 4) weeks before the plant starts flowering so there is lots of nutrients available for the plant to use when it actually starts flowering.
The orchid bloom booster does have lots of bacteria in and might help the plant roots work better if the plant is growing in a sterile medium like coconut coir. However, if it’s growing in soil or potting mix it should have plenty of bacteria in the soil.
