Hey @JeffersonJames it sounds like everyone has covered your questions one soil/coco but as I was reading I see you are still shopping for light so I thought I would share this. I saw that Amazon has some viparspectra lights on sale. Don’t go for the blurple ones but their quantum board LEDs are built with the same parts the big boys use (Samsung diodes and meanwell driver) really good pricing right now from a well known company. Good luck
I love growing in coco, but it is a little bit of a commitment without watering system. Coco also has a few things that are kinda specific to growing in it, so please do your research first if that’s what you decide on.
I’m not a huge fan of fox farms, but I also don’t believe that nobody by you sells it. The stuff is literally everywhere! They have a retail locator on their website, try it and see. If all else fails, roots organic seems like pretty good product.
Being pretty much straight up coco with a splash of perlite minimizes watering frequency. So that makes sense. Some use it like you do and then others mix with 50% perlite and go the high frequency fertigation route.
Do you use bricks or bagged ready to use?
I use the bricks, I look for the most natural ones that I can find. Cana Coco is probably the best I think, but it was out on Amazon last time I ordered a bunch, so I got another brand that worked really good and super easy to hydrate and break up:

@MeEasy
I bought 2 Mars Hydro T1000 lights for a 2x4 tent. I will be growing 3 plants. 2 will be using pot 4 pot kits and the 3rd will be the coco, perlite mix with jacks 321.
I have a grow journal going, if you or anyone else wants to follow and offer advice/help, it’ll be appreciated.
Here is my grow journal
I have a plant 2 weeks into flower and 2 babies that are about 2 weeks breaking coco. Between the 3 plants i ggo thru about 5 gallons of jacks mix every other day as of now to keep everything wet and happy. So far i am super impressed using coco with jacks. I also use silica rwcharge bud ignitor big bud and bud candy. If i dont use recharge sometimes i add a bit of humic acid and some kelp extract to the mix.
It’s great isn’t it!?! I don’t use any of the AN stuff you mentioned as I don’t see a need for it, but there are lots of others here that do add in stuff like that with great success as well
Re-reading this, what size pots are your flowering plants in? I use 5 gallons for 5 plants every 2 days and I’m at 3 weeks in…I only give 1 gallon per plant, as there is no need in watering to run off with jacks and coco. Maybe because of the other additions your using🤷♂️.
There are some amazing journals with results on here with only jacks and some recharge or tribus like @imSICKkid journal found here:
What he said. I am in my third Coco/Jacks combination and have never looked back.
I, maybe being lazy, use the https://www.amazon.com/gp/slredirect/picassoRedirect.html/ref=pa_sp_atf_aps_sr_pg1_1?ie=UTF8&adId=A07031032WXMN7K9H55C4&url=%2FMother-Earth-Perlite-Certified-Natural%2Fdp%2FB01FG87H2O%2Fref%3Dsr_1_1_sspa%3Fdchild%3D1%26keywords%3Dcoco%2Bcoir%26qid%3D1613597196%26sr%3D8-1-spons%26psc%3D1&qualifier=1613597196&id=2927861533829587&widgetName=sp_atf
It works great, no issues so far.
Lets try this, I think the link is bad
I was looking into that. I decided to go with everything @Ocean had suggested though. I added a bag of perlite to the order to help with watering. Im really excited to get my third plant going in coco.
I am going to document the differences between a mostly pure coco plant to a super soil/coco mix. I am betting tge Jacks 321 is going to make a huge difference.
Just be careful with your super soil mixed grow as that will have some nutrients already in it, so you can just use a Ph’d water (I’d go 6.2 for the soil mixed medium), and keep the coco at the lower 5.8(ish) ph
I bought the mother earth 5 KG bale. I hydrated and dried it this past fall. Sitting in a bin ready to buffer & add perlite. Easy enough. It is nice coco. Good mix of fibers & peat. I only have one 6 gallon XL pot to fill so not much to it. Thanks
My plan was to use the Jacks 321 on just the coco plant. The kit i bought from pot4pot is meant to be a just add water thing.
Im really excited to just have a nice comparison between 2 methods.
That works!!

@JeffersonJames, that little “3 pack” is a great way to start. i admit i had a little sticker shock looking at what Jack’s was going to cost. i made a bad decision (well, probably 100’s really) when i first started and my first purchase on nutes was sketchy. even though i had read lots of great reviews from experience folks here about jacks i liked the idea of a “test run”. i got the 6 oz kit. i believe it states that it is enough for approx 15 gallons. the seller is very generous with the weighing of the packages and i will easily get well more than that.
what i have found is that it has made the whole nute situation almost go away. its now so easy (as people are saying one solution for your entire grow), and since this is only my 3rd grow, i appreciate easy. it has convinced me that now that i am done rebuying lights (blurple, then too small, then maybe just right), and have gotten all the other necessary moving parts dialed, my next purchase will be to buy Jacks in the 20# bag.
Measuring/weighing is pretty easy and there are some good threads on here that speak directly to that. I have municipal water, so i fill gallon bottles and let them sit and then make 6 batches of jacks at a time (easy peasy). i am a little overly neurotic (common thread with lots of peeps here, we dig control, you have seen the pics of their grow rooms). so i bought a smaller scale that works well for smaller gram weighing. its on amazon so i believe i can show the link
Switching to Jacks is one of the decisions that i do not believe i will be rethinking for my next grows
good luck
@JackAndSan I decided to go with the large bag. I have 4 plants going and expect to grow many more, so I figured why not spend the money now.
