@Zee will look at that grow journal

Yeah I use the big light in my tent and gonna use the old led on the seedlings. Then I can pre-draft the next batch while I’m finishing one. Multi tasking lol

@Mumbis, I follow that post, he does experiments, all kinds of things I would call pushing the envelope. Amazing knowledge. I’ll be frank, my 1500w (advertised) watt burpleb light from Amazon are really doing well for early veg, am curious if anyone has experience generating the potential harvest from it, however haven’t found it here. I’ll be keeping my burple for early veg, as Skorpion is doing, however excited about switching to bulbs…I know my girls will really benefit from it, based off what I have read and seen here. Keep us posted!

@Psu8286 girls are looking amazing!! I like the variety grow, I got 3 different growing now, maybe challenging for a first timer, but think I can do it and worth the extra efforts. So much support in this forum

That’s why I hate chinese led makers and their marketers. You would assume that the Mars TS600 is a 600 watt light or ā€œequivalentā€ both lies, it’s a 100 watt light because that’s all the watts it pulls form the wall. It’s not equivalent to a 600 watt anything, A 600 watt HPS is really 600 watts, no marketing involved and will grow a ton more bud than the TS600. a 100 watt light is good for 1 small plant, not lighting a 4x4 tent by any stretch of the imagination. A $160 600 watt hps kit will outgrow that by a huge margin, so would a pair of good LED lights like the HLG 260xl’s at around $700 (if you build it yourself which is extremely easy), and if you can find them, seems everyone is spending their stimulus money on HLG lights so many models hard to find right now.

Your 100 watt light would be great at starting seedlings and a few weeks of veg, past that you need a lot more light, specially for a 4x4. Light = yield, how much weight would you like to grow at one harvest - an ounce or 2 or a pound or 2?

Next grow I’m only going with 4. And I’ll also scrog them.

In the HPS/MH/CMH world, they only talk real watts, no bs like the cheap led world. A 600 watt HPS/MH is really 600 watts and these days all the ballasts are dimmable, so you have a choice of running 250, 400, or 600 watts (real watts) or even 1000 watts if you go for a 1000 watt ballast, usually dimmable to 600, 750.

Some differences in bulbs. In MH not much to get excited about, in the HPS bulbs, the gold standard is eye hortilux super hps bulbs, they cost alot more than the cheap HPS bulbs but are considerably better in most people’s opinion (all I ever used) with an enhanced blue spectrum that cheap HPS bulbs don’t have.

And on multiple vs single plant. Growing multiples gets you to the same weight of harvest faster. 4 plants can fill a 4x4 in 2-3 months veg, it’d take 5-6 months veg for a single plant to fill the 4x4. Both can yield the same, but the 4 plants will be harvested in 4-5 months total vs 7-8 months total for a single plant.

That and upgraded carbon filters, can’t find a quality one online ATM. Makes me think to invest in HLG light stock, 2nd quarter earnings will be big. Like the government didn’t know that 1200.00 was on the money, lol.

Sorry @Mumbis, I didn’t mean to side line your post.

I WAS using 2 old fashion mars hydro 300w blurpes and grew some fairly good buds, but I can’t grow big plants with those lights and keep my plants short and bushy. BUT I got 2 new hlg 100s!!! So my 2x4x5 space. So happy lol. My friend has 2 ts600s and his plants look good at about 8 weeks, have not seen how it does during flower. Here’s a pic of my 2 autos, and short one is a photo I just flipped to 12 and 12 today to get her to flower. Happy growing

Ok nice, but you did use one for a while, you were the only one I thought of when asked about it.

Not the newer ts600, those are my hlg with different chips, I did 6 grows with mars hydro 300w burples.

@Hellraiser A pound or 2 definitely!

Then you need some serious light and need to think how much you can spend and see what the best option is for you. We’re here to help.

You need to grow one plant netted directly under the light. Netting it spreads the plant out and makes everything the same distance from the light.

@Hellraiser Well, If you don’t mind me asking, I kind of wanted an affordable power efficient light, thatll save some on the electricity bill, but also a high yield producing light, which Id assume is what most would want. Do you think there’s any true 600w leds I can look into or should I just try hfl? Again, I have a 4x4 space, and am wondering what is best for that.

There are true 600 watt LED lights, but they are not cheap, like the HLG 650r - $1099

https://www.amazon.com/Horticulture-Lighting-Group-Full-Spectrum-High-Efficiency/dp/B08748LGXC/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2DJHHKGY3H805&dchild=1&keywords=hlg%2Bled%2Bgrow%2Blight&qid=1588866210&sprefix=hlg%2Bled%2Caps%2C190&sr=8-5&th=1

Even the 500 watt model would be fine but still not cheap - $850

https://www.amazon.com/Horticulture-Lighting-Group-Full-Spectrum-High-Efficiency/dp/B07R5C4CKR/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2DJHHKGY3H805&dchild=1&keywords=hlg%2Bled%2Bgrow%2Blight&qid=1588866210&sprefix=hlg%2Bled%2Caps%2C190&sr=8-5&th=1

The only true 600 watt lights that are fairly cheap is going to be HPS - under $200 for a 600 watt air-cooled HPS/MH setup and you will need a 6" 400 cfm exhaust fan ($100) and ducting to remove the heat from your tent and send it elsewhere (outside preferably).

But any real 600 watt light (LED or HPS) is going to need good exhaust/ventilation to control temps.
