I’ve had migraines for over 20 years that I treat with cannabis, opiates, or barbiturates depending on the severity. I’ve got a new doc that drug tested me today during an appointment. No doubt I’ll be positive. The doc is with a big hospital system, implying that they will be sticklers for the rules, as they state they follow federal law and I’m already in a non-legal state. We’ll see, but I expect that they will tell me that it is a violation of the pain management contract and cut me off the controlled substances. I’ll have to find a non-hospital pain management doc that doesn’t care about cannabis use.
This type of crap pisses me off so much. Alcohol is fine, smokes are fine, opiods are fine and all kill people but mention cannabis and oh my. I feel your pain brother.
They have drinks that you can take and be clean for a couple hours, had to use one for a DOT physical and passed. They have to give you two hours to get to a facility if it’s and employer, Docs visits might call for taking it just to prevent problems. I know pain management will not prescribe you anything if you test for it. Easy to keep one of the drinks handy. I used one called Stinger, but Son says he has a better one, I say it worked so it couldn’t be much better!
Damn, I hate to hear that your new doctor tested you. I met someone the other day that told me every time when they go in to see their doctor they get tested and they’re looking for cannabis and anything else. I kind of thought they were lying to me, but now I see it’s true but crazy.
Saying a prayer for ya Grow Bro
Bummer man. Time to change doctors.
Before retirement I carried it for drug tests for years.
I’ve got the same thing coming up next week. I’m not going to game the system. Screw 'em.
But they’ll keep shoving pills down your throat
@MidwestGuy the Mush doesn’t help your head?
I remember a lot of folks growing because of Cluster headaches
The frequency, duration, or intensity of them hasn’t changed since I started microdosing.
That sucks bro ill bet if a pharmaceutical company had bought your doctor a steak dinner and said hey prescribe this cannabis based product to your patients you’d be on it asap but self medicate with a little home grown flower and they want to make a federal case out of it
These are the exact people that lobby against MJ. Them, drug test labs, and the criminal justice system have created entire industries that feed off people failing for THC.
I emailed 3 pain management clinics this morning and asked them to advise their policy on patient cannabis use.
I honestly don’t understand why a private practice physician would not just look the other way. The truth is that the prescriptions that I get are for dosing only every 12 hours. A dose of opiates only lasts 3-4 hours and the barbiturate is only effective for 5 or 6 hours. It leaves me hanging with pain for 1/2 to 2/3 of the 24 hours that a migraine lasts. I use cannabis to manage that as best I can.
Shit, I might just stop the pain meds altogether and just stick with cannabis only. In that case when I get a note from my doc that he is cutting me off, I can just reply, “Understood.” I’m not addicted to either, so it won’t matter a lot.
Get off the meds if you can. I hate this for you. You’re one of the most helpful members I see interacting with other’s. My 10 year old has migraines. It took us time to figure it out. He would get sick and be lethargic for days. We had no idea what caused it. After a year or so, once he could articulate his speech better he told us his head hurt bad. BAM! Kids got migraines. We treat them with migrasil and a pressure point clamp on his span between the thumb and index finger. Both are on the Zon.
The only other drug I use is sumatriptan. It’s suppose to abort migraines, but it only works half the time. If I wake up with a migraine it won’t work at all.
Those things look gimmicky but I know they work for our son. He went from being down for 3-4 days, to down for about 6 hours. The frequency has subsided as well.
Can’t argue against something that works for someone. Mine are typically for the day, but if I get one in the afternoon it might last through the next day too.
I’ve tried everything out there including sumatriptan. Ubrelvy, Nurtec, two injectable. Nothing but narcotics works.
