Off topic, anyone know anything about war guns from the 1800?

@T-ray I didn’t notice any other writing besides then graving that I posted in the picture

Look for makers marks. Ie, small symbols

If the inside diameter of the bore is around .69" it’s a military pattern gun. If you can see rifling down the barrel it’s likely a civil war pattern Springfield (Union) or Enfield (Confederate). It has been embellished by a previous owner in that the stock has had some carving done. Tough with the pictures supplied to gauge exactly what it is.

So how do I go about finding out what this is worth

I am not an expert by any means, but I think it’s likely Lorenz Model 1854.

Edit: you have to find the right buyer. It needs an inspection by a qualified gunsmith to see if it’s serviceable or a wall hanger. If it’s serviceable, the worth is greater.

@T-ray hey that does kind of look like it. All right so I know nothing about going about the process of having it appraised or whatever could you guide me

@Jayjay504 see if you can find a reputable gunsmith or gun dealer in your locale and let them do an inspection. It may cost a few bucks but at least you will have an idea of what you got. You can also go to gun auction sites and see if you can find comparable rifles and see what they are asking for. I would be tickled to have that piece of history just because! Best of luck gromie.

Quick search found this one, assuming it is a Lorenz.

If it’s a Lorenz, it’s not original, the trigger guard is correct but it should have two barrel bands plus the end cap….may be customized.

Also, Lorenz used a round tang where this one is square…

Yea I don’t know. It’s the plate on the stock just behind the receiver that lends me to my opinion. I don’t know much about the old muzzleloaders outside of what I have gathered on the YT channels I frequent.

If it’s rifled then it’s Civil War. If it’s not it’s likely a bit earlier.
