Nooby question about autos

What the difference in terms of potancy between photos and autos? Do you notice a lower strength, less taste?

All I have ever seen is a few point difference in thc and many don’t notice a few percent anyways. I know photos are a little more but that’s probably because the time to mature.

Thanks for the info, taste is on point as well? What about yeild, I understand you can prolong veg with photos but if you grew them out to a similar size in veg and flipped the lights on photos, would you end up with similar weight in the end?

The way I look at it is like this an auto runs 10 to 12 weeks at 4 oz. A photo run you 7 to 8 months and get you 12 to 16. Do you want one lump sum or payments basically.

Alright, thanks for the breakdown. So autos are a good way to sample different strains I would imagine.
Anyway, thanks again for the response.

Another question, when a breeder says ###g/m2, how do you achieve that? Like, I’m going to be in a 4x4, so 1.48 m2. I’m sure it depends on every variable (from lights to the music you play next to them lol) but if I can get conditions as close to ideal as possible, what does that look like? 2 HLG 260 xl rspec for lights. Are those numbers only achieved with hydro, or would I see those numbers, with say, Coast of Maine super soil in 3 or 5 gal smart pots?
@TDubWilly, you used CoM soil, did you use it with autos, or was it photos? What was your experience with that soil in an indoor environment, did you end up feeding in flower?

Using lst or scrog or sog will help up production. I’m far from perfect I estimate at about half the amount suggested.like I need 3 to 4 oz off autos I can get that off one, but just in case I grow three.

I grow Super Monsters so getting 2+ lbs dried, cured and no stems with my Photos is easy to achieve. If you want results, break open the piggy bank.

For a 4x4 tent 2 HLG 260xl rspec will get you there and then some. :+1:

I was planning on doing a sog for sure. Just didn’t know if those numbers were coaxed by going the hydro route or if it’s possible to do it in a super soil.
@MrPeat I love photos, it’s been exclusively all I’ve grown outside since I started, but wading into autos for an indoor grow has me with questions. Such as: because autos have a defined grow period, I obviously can’t let them veg out to fill a space, I have to increase the number of plants to obtain a full canopy? Instead of growing one or two in a 4x4 I would do 3 or 4?

I got 3 in a 2x4

@Northerlit hi mate i wondering also does it make a difference with autos on the light schedule an pot size,?
so run it for more than 12 hours to get them bigger with large pots ? 14-16 hours a day maybe.?
does this work ? good question  good luck mate

So with that size tent you’re at 0.74 m2 and you said you get half the g/m2, which makes sense unless you’re converting that final number as well, which you probably are lol

Another good question lol light schedules. I’ve seen some run 12/12 from seed or going straight 24/7. But I’m not sure what the optimal rate would be.

I run 12 to 16 hours but it fluctuates, I actually tend to notice the real growth during lights out. I turn them on then turn them off not noticing any growth then go to turn them on the next day and wow look at you.

Yeah I only notice real growth on my photos in the morning.

So when they go to flower, do you switch lights to 12/12 or does that really not matter and I could do like you a 16/8?

Either way I run a 16 probably to flower, I’m 3 weeks from harvest (stupid clear triclones ) I’m on 12 now I turn them on at about 9 pm then turn them off at 9 am

That’s cool, do you have a journal I can check out?

I notice zero difference.

Here is my outdoor grow’s latest update. All autos. Usually, I am an indoor auto grower.
