Newbie in Medellin

Colombia (Medellin) has 12/12 light all year long and a small plant I was given went into flower really early so I now have an 8" baby close to harvest… Lol.

Anyway, the experience peaked my interest so I bought 5 “Tangerine Mist” seeds and starting my first grow outside (on my roof) in pots. In terms of light, I’m told a 10-day start under 24 hours of light helps so it’s Day 5 and my very first healthy-looking seedling is sitting 5 inches under 4 30-watt flor. bulbs set up under an outdoor roof-top covering. In a week or so I intend to gradually move the seedling into full sun (I get 8 hours a day) and then move it under the lights for an additional six hours a day after dusk and during veg. Then, finally let it flower in the natural 12/12 light enviornment of Medellin. I thought that augmenting six hours of rather weak flor. light during veg. would be enough extra light given that the plant would be getting 12 hours of daylight (with 8 hours of direct sun) as well.

So, is this quantity of extra artificial light (six hours per day under 4 30-watt flor.) enough to keep it in veg?

Thanks for your help and any advise you may have.

You need a minimal of 14 hours to keep a plant in its veg life cycle

When I was living in the tropics of North Queensland I grew in soil pots outdoors. At dusk I would carry the plants in and put them under four hours of light to get them through the veg cycle. Once they were ready to flower, I would leave them outside til harvest.

Very helpful… thanks!

We are warned NOT to expose our flowering plants to any light at all during their 12 hours of darkness or they will go back to veg. So even if the light is weak, I think it will keep them in veg. Some people claim a few minutes with a flashlight every night at midnight is enough. You could try just turning on your lights from midnite to 1 AM and let us know how it works out.
