Newb Grower. For real

I’m not sure about that Google mendo dope those boys grow trees! I mean TREE’S!!! I think (I’m still a novice) as long as the ladys have proper nutes and a proper environment with plenty of light, really the only variants of THC would be strain and uva/uvb.

But other my confirm that theory, but again I’ve never herd of that. I mean some larger plants you would have to properly trim as lower foliage and smaller buds on lower branches would use a lot of the nute as you top colas is where the good stuff is.

Just my $0.02

That’s what I figured. It didn’t seem logical that a plant had only ‘so much’ THC and it got divided equally over the buds. Cause you get a small plant and those buds would be killer.

Other than northern lights, what other strains are good for beginners? I’m curious as I was looking for a mixed set of seeds from the store on here. Be nice to have the choice of a few strains when smoking.

Also how long can you store seeds before using them? The mixed sets come in say 10 seeds … But I’m only gonna plant 5. Can I save the others for next spring?

White Widow is a great beginner strain. I found it very easy to grow. You can store your seeds in the refrigerator in a light sealed container. They can last for years that way.

You should go with whitewidow autos for your grow
Great strain grows well outdoor and is super reliable performer and super tough

Oops
Sorry @raustin I see you alread suggested ww

Yes
I store mine in the refrigerator next to the cream

If you want more variety it may be a good Idea to do one of the auto mix pack
But being your first grow I would probably go with the white widow autos
I wish I did that on my first one
I did blueberry and northern lights autos and they were great but I think the white widow is just a great grower from what I have seen here and takes abuses that other stains may not like so much.

I grew ILGM’s ww auto’s outside last summer in cold and rainy weather at 59N and they sure are tough!

Had to chop a couple of weeks early due to bud rot, but still got a decent amount.

Hey gang,

My apologies for not responding lately. Was sick with the flu that killed me for like a month. Wtf? Anywho…

So I finally got muh seeds. Wooo. Super excited.
Went out and got my indoor greenhouse, some pots n stuff. I also went to a garden center and asked for 4:1:1 mix. She woman looked I was speaking Punjabi. She asked why I wanted something so specific. I sorta skirted the issue as … why announce my little mini grow op :stuck_out_tongue:

So can anyone here, preferably from Canada… for distribution purposes … give me some specific examples of 4:1:1 that you all have bought? At least I can watch out for them.

Thanks a bunch

Hey friends,

Ok. So its been a rough ride here in my area. We have hardly had ANY sun and lots of rain. I have been very resistant to plant my seeds as I have no idea when I can transplant them outside. But, it looks like somewhat nice weather is finally hitting, with night time temps not going below 10 celcius. So, will germinate the babies over the next couple of days.

I did a bit more reading on soils n all that. I was clearly confused, and, I likely still am. But here is my updated knowledge: finding foxfarm in canada is really expensive so I have considered going organic. I saw a really cool youtube video on making “supersoil,” using Promix Veg and Herb mix, dolomitic lime, bone meal, muriate of potash, and kelp meal. Problem is … a few of those items I cant find around here. I cant find bone meal… but I have found blood meal. I cant find muriate of potash … but I have found potash compost. I cant find kelp meal … what would be a suitable replacement? I cant find worm castings … but I have found worm casting compost. I have found perlite and vermiculite as well. The garden center near me also has a wide selection of composts as well.

So, I’m sort of trying to figure out what to use and not use and its proving difficult. I"m not sure if casting compost is a suitable replacement for worm castings, as an example.

The alternative is that I’m way overthinking this lol

HELP. STAT! :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks gang.

I’m tagging in @garrigan62 and @Donaldj for help for you. I’m sure they will have some suggestions for you. Hang in there :+1:

I live in Canada conveniently and find yes some products can be hard to source though being in BC I have luxury of many hydro shops Home Depot stocks Bone and Blood meal kept meal can be ignored as much of what you are describing is a microbe feeding soil the word compost does just that for you  I actually had a pretty decent grow using plain Promix Premium sold at lowes or Rona? it is time release but fortunately Cannabis are heavy feeders and put their 4-6month claim a joke

Yeah the problem is that I live in a really small area. I’m about 100km to either Ottawa or Montreal so the garden center’s around here are fairly “meh.” I don’t have a rona or home depot either until I go into the city … which is pretty rare.

So if I made up a soil mix of:
Promix Veg and Herb (which has perlite and lime)
Some worm casting compost
Blood meal

Start off with that. That should be good to plant the seeds indoors for a few weeks, then transplant outside.

Then try to get into the city to get some bone meal for the phosphorus, yes? What can be purchased as a replacement for potash? Or, as I mentioned above, potash compost is acceptable?

Yay or nay? >)

should be fine

So I went on a little field trip and got a bit lucky. I was able to find:

Promix Veg and Herb
CIL Plus Worm Casting Compost
Promix Root Booster (5-15-5). It actually mentions medicinal mj on the back. Thought that was interesting.
Bone Meal (4-10-0)
Blood Meal (12-0-0)
Dolomitic Lime
Perlite
Vermiculite
Miracle Gro Shake N Feed (10-5-15). I bought it because it contains kelp, earthworm castings, feather meal, bone meal)

Miracle Gro (15-30-15). This is actually for other plants but I thought I would mention it anyway.

I can return anything I don’t use so it’s not a big deal. But I figured, I was there, so why not?

So, given the above ingredient list, thoughts?

I also bought a water PH test kit. Turns out, my water sits at around 7.5 - 8.0, which is high. Now I read that lime can be used to lower ph … is that something one should do? Or is a “ph down” chem a better route?

welcome to the forum
The mix looks great
Are you doing a layered mix or just mixing it all together and planting directly in it?
pH up and down work great
Lime can lower ph but you would have to use alot of it
I use vinegar to bring my pH down and baking soda to bring it up
